View full detailsYes — aluminum can be laser engraved, but the type of aluminum and the laser source matter significantly.
Bare aluminum reflects a high percentage of light, so fiber and UV lasers are used for permanent marking and deep engraving. Anodized or coated aluminum can also be engraved using diode or CO₂ lasers, where the laser removes the surface coating to reveal high-contrast markings underneath.
A 20W laser can engrave anodized and coated aluminum very effectively and is commonly used for nameplates, QR codes, logos, and aluminum tags. However, for raw, uncoated aluminum, a 20W diode or CO₂ system is not sufficient for permanent engraving — a fiber or UV laser is recommended for that application.
The ideal wattage depends on the aluminum type and production volume:
Higher wattage enables faster processing, deeper engraving, and better contrast.
A 40W CO₂ or diode laser can engrave coated or anodized aluminum beautifully but cannot engrave raw aluminum directly. For permanent marking, serial numbers, logos, and deep engraving on bare aluminum, a 40W fiber laser (not CO₂) is required — making fiber the preferred solution for industrial aluminum engraving.
