OMTech Galvo 50W Autofocus Fiber Laser Marking Machine Specifications

Why 50W Is the Right Galvo Configuration for Production Use

The OMTech Galvo autofocus family includes 20W, 30W, and 50W configurations sharing the same platform and autofocus architecture. The 50W is the highest-power variant — and the power difference translates into three practical advantages over the lower-wattage models.

Marking depth. At 50W, the machine reaches deeper penetration on harder metals in fewer passes. For shops marking tool steel, thick stainless components, or any application where mark permanence and depth matter for traceability or regulatory compliance, the additional wattage provides the output that 20W and 30W models approach but don't match.

Throughput on dense graphics. More complex logos, detailed artwork, and dense QR codes require more laser passes to complete cleanly. Higher power completes each pass more efficiently, keeping batch cycle times lower on detail-intensive jobs.

Production headroom. Running a 20W machine at maximum power continuously runs it hot. A 50W machine completing the same job at 60–70% power runs with margin — which means more consistent output over long shifts and less thermal stress on the source over years of operation.

The laser source carries a rated lifespan of 100,000 hours MTTF. At 8 hours daily, 250 days per year, that's approximately 50 years before the source approaches end of life. This is a machine you buy once.

One-Click Autofocus — Repeatability Without Manual Calibration

Manual focus adjustment is the single most time-consuming recurring task in a fiber laser marking workflow. Every time material height changes — switching from a flat plate to a bracelet to a thicker component — the focal distance needs to be reset. Done manually, this means measuring, adjusting the Z-axis, and usually running a test mark to confirm before starting the production run.

The Galvo 50W's one-click autofocus handles this automatically. The system measures the distance to the workpiece surface and adjusts the focal length to the correct position. Place the material, click autofocus, and begin marking — no measurement, no test burn, no guesswork.

For a shop cycling through different part types throughout a day, this automation reduces setup time per material change from several minutes to under 30 seconds. Across a full production shift, the cumulative time saving is significant — and the consistency improvement reduces the misaligned-mark rate that costs time and material on manual focus setups.

OMTech Galvo 50W Autofocus Fiber Laser Marking Machine One Click Autofocus

10,000 mm/s — Production Speed, Not Demo Speed

The Galvo 50W reaches 10,000 mm/s maximum marking speed — the ceiling for desktop fiber laser performance in this class. This speed comes from the galvo scanning system: instead of physically moving the laser head across the work area like a gantry machine, high-speed mirrors redirect the laser beam. There's no mechanical mass to accelerate and decelerate, which is why galvo laser speeds are fundamentally different from any gantry CO₂ machine.

At 10,000 mm/s with ±0.01mm marking accuracy, the machine completes detailed graphics, multi-line serial numbers, and dense QR codes quickly while maintaining the mark quality that production applications demand.

The 5.9" × 5.9" processing area with a 9.8" × 13.4" workbed accommodates the full range of standard marking applications — metal tags, jewelry pieces, tool heads, trophies, plaques, business card blanks, and component IDs — with consistent beam quality and energy uniformity to the edges of the marking field.

What It Marks — and Where It Excels

The Galvo 50W's 1064nm fiber wavelength is the right tool for metal marking at production volume. Here's what it does well:

Metals — primary application: Stainless steel, gold, silver, platinum, titanium, brass, aluminum, copper, iron, and most alloys. Black and white permanent marking for serial numbers, barcodes, QR codes, traceability IDs, logos, names, and detailed artwork. Mark permanence is exceptional — fiber laser marks on metal are resistant to abrasion, chemicals, and environmental exposure.

Hard surfaces and coated materials: Some plastics (ABS, PC), coated metal surfaces, and other compatible marking surfaces depending on material composition and settings.

Additional surfaces: Wood, leather, and similar organic surfaces at the surface marking level.

Important distinction: This is the standard galvo fiber laser platform — not a MOPA configuration. The Galvo 50W does not produce color marks on stainless steel or titanium. For color marking capability, the MOPA 60W is the appropriate machine. If your primary work is black and white marking, serial numbers, barcodes, logos, and traceability — the Galvo 50W delivers everything you need at the highest power in this family. Contact our team if you're deciding between the Galvo and MOPA configurations.

OMTech Galvo 50W Autofocus Fiber Laser Marking Machine Accuracy

Compact, Quiet, and Workbench-Ready

At 21.8" × 13.2" × 28.3" and 62 lbs., the Galvo 50W places on a standard workbench without dominating the workspace. The machine operates quietly — suitable for studios, shared workspaces, jewelry studios, machine shops, and light manufacturing environments where noise control matters.

Grid dots on the workbed provide quick visual part alignment before running a job — reducing setup time on repeat marking jobs where parts always land in the same position.

The machine runs on standard power and includes everything in the box to start marking from day one: control box with laser arm, support column, power cord, USB cable, USB flash drive with software, 2 laser keys, position lock bars, safety goggles, remote control terminal, hex wrench set, ruler, screwdriver, and manual.

Software: EzCad2 and LightBurn — Both Supported

The Galvo 50W ships with EzCad2 — the industry standard for galvo fiber laser control on Windows (7, 8, 10, 11). EzCad2 provides direct access to all marking parameters, array marking, barcode and QR code generation, rotary axis control, and advanced marking functions.

For users already in LightBurn, the machine is compatible in galvo mode on both Windows and macOS. Supported file formats include AI, BMP, DXF, GIF, JPG, PLT, PNG, TGA, and TIF — the full range of common design and illustration formats used in personalization and production marking workflows.

Frequently Asked Questions about OMTech Galvo 50W Autofocus Fiber Laser Marking Machine

Q: What's the difference between the Galvo 50W and the MOPA 60W Autofocus?
A: Both machines share the same autofocus arm design, 10,000 mm/s speed, ±0.01mm marking accuracy, and similar physical footprint. The key difference is the laser source type. The Galvo 50W uses a standard Q-switched fiber laser that marks metal in black — fast, precise, and cost-effective for serial numbers, barcodes, logos, and general metal marking. The MOPA 60W uses a MOPA fiber laser source with adjustable pulse width and frequency, enabling color marking on stainless steel and titanium alongside all the standard marking the Galvo does. If color marking is any part of your application, choose MOPA. If your work is entirely black and white marking, the Galvo 50W is the right tool at a lower price point.

Q: What is the practical difference between 20W, 30W, and 50W in the Galvo autofocus family?
A: All three models use the same platform and deliver the same 10,000 mm/s speed and autofocus workflow. The wattage determines marking depth per pass on harder metals, throughput on detail-intensive graphics, and how much operating headroom the machine has during production shifts. The 50W is the highest-power variant in the family — providing stronger marking on harder metals and additional production headroom compared to the 20W and 30W. For shops prioritizing throughput and marking depth on stainless steel, tool steel, and harder alloys, the 50W is the appropriate choice.

Q: How does one-click autofocus work?
A: The autofocus system automatically measures the distance from the focusing lens to the workpiece surface and adjusts the Z-axis to the correct focal position. Press autofocus, wait a moment, and begin marking — no ruler measurement, no test burn, no manual adjustment. Autofocus adjusts the focal length to ±1mm positioning accuracy, removing the guesswork that causes misaligned marks on manual focus machines.

Q: What materials does it mark?
A: Stainless steel, aluminum, gold, silver, platinum, titanium, brass, copper, iron, and most alloys. Also compatible with select plastics (ABS, PC), coated surfaces, wood, leather, and other engraving-compatible materials. This is a marking and engraving machine — it is not designed for CO₂-style cutting of wood, acrylic, or thick non-metal material.

Q: Can it engrave cylindrical objects like rings and tumblers?
A: Yes, with a compatible rotary axis attachment. OMTech offers a 70mm rotary axis compatible with this machine as an optional add-on. The rotary enables marking on rings, bracelets, pens, tumblers, and cylindrical parts — expanding the product types the machine can handle without a separate production setup.

Q: Is it compatible with macOS?
A: Yes via LightBurn galvo mode, which runs natively on macOS. EzCad2 requires Windows (7, 8, 10, or 11). Mac users can run EzCad2 through Parallels or Boot Camp if needed, but LightBurn is the preferred interface for Mac-based operators and requires no workarounds.

Q: What's the laser lifespan?
A: The fiber laser source is rated at 100,000 hours MTTF (mean time to failure). At 8-hour daily use across 250 working days per year, that's approximately 50 years of rated life — functionally a lifetime component under normal operating conditions.

Q: Can it mark QR codes and barcodes at small sizes?
A: Yes. At ±0.01mm marking accuracy, the Galvo 50W produces QR codes and barcodes at the small sizes required for component-level traceability applications — including Data Matrix codes used in medical device and defense traceability standards. EzCad2 includes direct barcode and QR code generation from data inputs, without requiring external design work.

Q: Why buy from The Maker's Chest instead of directly from OMTech?
A: Our 75-day return window gives you real production evaluation time — significantly more than OMTech's direct policy — enough to run the machine through your actual marking jobs and confirm it delivers the throughput and quality your business requires. Our USA-based expert support team is reachable by phone and email for EzCad2 and LightBurn setup, material parameter guidance, and any production troubleshooting. If you're choosing between the Galvo and MOPA configurations, we'll give you a straight recommendation before you order.

Home Delivery (Bulky Items)

  • This service utilises power tailgates with two-man crews or crane trucks when required and this is included in the quoted price.
  • The receiver will be contacted prior to delivery to arrange a suitable delivery date and time. Deliveries are scheduled for either an AM or PM slot on any given day.
  • Delivery is to front car port, driveway, doorstep or wherever practical depending upon site access. Drivers are not permitted to move item(s) within the residence or around the property due to OHS reasons.
  • This service assumes reasonable and safe access to the site is available. Overhanging trees, steep driveways, unsealed driveways, narrow driveways or streets or an unforeseen obstruction may deem the delivery unavailable.
  • If your delivery address is in a regional or remote location, we recommend shipping to the nearest depot as the most affordable option.

We can't advise on the exact time and day the delivery will occur as this is not within our control, however you will be emailed the tracking details where you will be able to contact the freight company for more accurate timeframes.
