OMTech Galvo 30W Split Fiber Laser Engraver Specifications

Why the 30W Split Is the Right Step Up From Entry-Level

The 20W fiber laser is where most people enter the category. It handles everyday metal marking effectively — serial numbers, barcodes, logos, jewelry inscriptions — at an accessible price. But as production volume grows and material demands increase, the 20W's constraints become visible:

Slower throughput on complex graphics that require more power per unit area. Less comfortable headroom on harder metals where 20W marks slowly or requires multiple passes. A smaller operating margin during extended production runs that pushes the source harder than ideal.

The Galvo 30W Split's 30W Raycus output adds approximately 50% more power than an entry-level 20W machine — translated into real production advantages:

Faster marking on complex designs. Dense logos, detailed artwork, and fine-pattern fills complete in fewer passes and at higher travel speed than 20W machines on comparable jobs.

More confident marking on harder metals. Stainless steel, hardened tool steel, carbide, and similar alloys respond better to higher energy — cleaner marks, faster cycle completion, more consistent results across a batch of variable-hardness parts.

More headroom for sustained sessions. A 30W machine marking at 65–70% output across a full production day maintains consistent beam quality throughout. A 20W machine pushing near its limit produces progressively less consistent results as sessions extend.

6.9" × 6.9" Field — Room for Bigger Pieces and Better Batches

The Galvo 30W Split's 6.9" × 6.9" (175 × 175mm) marking field is meaningfully larger than the 4.3" × 4.3" field found on most compact integrated and entry-level split fiber laser machines — and the size difference translates directly into production flexibility.

More pieces per batch. A 6.9" field accommodates approximately 60% more marking area than a 4.3" field. For a personalization shop marking metal tags, jewelry pieces, or branded components, more pieces per layout means fewer load cycles, less interruption, and higher throughput per shift.

Larger individual pieces in one pass. Nameplates up to 6.9" wide, wider award plaques, longer tool shanks, and broader component panels all fit within the field without repositioning — eliminating the alignment complexity of multi-pass setups on smaller machines.

The F-Theta field lens maintains a consistent, focused laser spot across the full 6.9" × 6.9" area — so marks at the corners of a batch layout are as clean and accurate as marks at the center. For production where consistency across the field determines the accept/reject rate of a batch, field-wide uniformity is the specification that matters.

OMTech Galvo 30W Split Fiber Laser Engraver Boost Speed

Red Dot Guidance — Placement Confirmed Before Every Mark

The Galvo 30W Split's built-in red laser pointer provides four positioning functions before the main laser fires:

Focusing reference — the red dot indicates the correct focal distance from the galvo head to the workpiece, helping manual focus setup.

Origin positioning — confirm the laser's starting position on the workpiece before the job runs.

Outline preview — trace the perimeter of the marking design on the workpiece, confirming that the full design fits within the piece and is positioned correctly.

Pattern placement — for personalization work where the mark needs to land at a specific location on an irregularly shaped piece, the preview trace shows exactly where the mark will go before any laser energy is applied.

For a personalization business marking individual pieces where placement accuracy matters — a name centered on a tag, a logo positioned on a specific location of a component — the red dot preview eliminates the test-burn and repositioning cycle on initial setup, saving both material and time.

Rotary Axis Ready — From Flat to Cylindrical in One Setup

The Galvo 30W Split includes a built-in 4-pin rotary axis port — compatible with standard rotary attachments for cylindrical and curved-surface marking.

For a jewelry maker or personalization business, the rotary capability converts a flat-stock marking machine into a complete marking workstation that handles rings, bracelets, bangles, pens, and cylindrical components without requiring a separate piece of equipment. The same 30W machine that marks your flat nameplates in the morning marks your ring inscriptions in the afternoon.

Rotary attachments are available as optional add-ons at checkout.

OMTech Galvo 30W Split Fiber Laser Engraver Rotary Axis Compatible

Split Workstation Design — Open Access, Ergonomic, Flexible

The split design separates the laser source unit from the marking column and processing platform — creating a dedicated workstation layout rather than the compact integrated single-body design of most desktop fiber lasers.

The practical benefits for daily production use:

Open platform access. Parts load and unload from below the galvo head in open air — no reaching into a cabinet, no clearance constraints, and easy access for positioning fixtures, larger components, and irregular shapes.

Flexible column height. The support column includes a height adjustment that positions the galvo head at the right focal distance for your workpiece and working posture — creating a comfortable, ergonomic marking station for extended sessions.

More flexible layout integration. The source unit and column are physically separate, so the workstation can be arranged to fit your shop layout rather than requiring specific clearances around a fixed-footprint enclosure.

Manual Focus — Fast to Learn, Fast to Set

The Galvo 30W Split uses manual focus — you set the correct focal distance between the galvo head and the workpiece surface using the height adjustment and red dot positioning, then mark. For operators who work at a consistent material height — which describes the majority of production marking workflows — this setup is fast, repeatable, and requires no calibration equipment or automated systems.

The minimum marking depth is 0.005mm and maximum single-pass depth is 0.08mm — providing a precise shallow-to-moderate engraving range appropriate for permanent surface marking that needs to survive industrial use without being so deep that it compromises thin materials.

EzCad2 and LightBurn — Both Supported

The Galvo 30W Split includes EzCad2 — compatible with Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, and 10 (32/64-bit). EzCad2 provides full access to marking parameters, array batch layouts, barcode and QR code generation, rotary axis control, and all standard galvo fiber laser marking functions.

LightBurn galvo mode is also compatible — the right choice for Mac-based operators who want native macOS compatibility, or for shops where LightBurn is already in use for other laser machines.

Supported file formats: AI, BMP, DXF, GIF, JPG, PLT, PNG, TGA, TIF.

Frequently Asked Questions about OMTech Galvo 30W Split Fiber Laser Engraver

Q: How does the 30W split compare to a 20W compact integrated fiber laser?
A: The 30W provides approximately 50% more fiber laser output — faster throughput on complex graphics, better performance on harder metals, and more operating headroom during extended production sessions. The 6.9" × 6.9" field is larger than most 20W integrated units' 4.3" or 5.9" fields. The split workstation layout offers open-access ergonomics that an enclosed integrated unit doesn't. For a shop that has outgrown 20W throughput or needs the larger marking field for batch production, the 30W split is the logical step up.

Q: Does it produce color marks on stainless steel?
A: No. The Galvo 30W Split is a standard galvo fiber laser — it marks metal in black and white. Color marking on stainless steel and titanium requires a MOPA laser source with adjustable pulse width and frequency. The OMTech MOPA 60W or MOPA 100W Split are the appropriate machines for color marking applications. If color marking is any part of your current or planned business, contact our team before choosing between galvo and MOPA configurations.

Q: What metals does it mark well?
A: Aluminum, brass, copper, gold, silver, steel, stainless steel, titanium, tungsten, carbide, and most metal alloys. Permanent black marking for serial numbers, barcodes, QR codes, logos, text, and traceability marks. It also marks granite, marble, and selected hard plastics (acrylic) at the surface level. Do not use with PVC, vinyl, Teflon/PTFE, or halogen-containing materials.

Q: How does manual focus work in practice?
A: Manual focus on the Galvo 30W Split uses the height adjustment knob on the support column to position the galvo head at the correct focal distance from the workpiece surface. The red dot pointer helps confirm the correct focal position before marking. For operators working at a consistent material height — which describes the majority of flat-stock marking workflows — this setup is established once per material type and repeats accurately throughout the session.

Q: Can I engrave tumblers, rings, and cylindrical objects?
A: Yes, with a compatible rotary axis attachment connected to the built-in 4-pin rotary port. The rotary enables marking on rings, bracelets, pens, tumblers, and cylindrical objects. Available as an optional add-on at checkout.

Q: Is it compatible with macOS?
A: Yes via LightBurn galvo mode, which runs natively on macOS. EzCad2 requires Windows. Mac-based operators use LightBurn as the primary interface with no workarounds.

Q: What is the laser service life?
A: The Raycus fiber laser source carries a 100,000-hour expected service life — approximately 50 years at 8 hours daily, 250 working days per year. This is a buy-once decision for the laser source.

Q: What's the minimum line width this machine can produce?
A: The specified minimum line width is 0.15mm (0.006") — appropriate for fine serif text, dense QR code cells at small sizes, and detailed artwork where line definition matters. For applications requiring finer lines below 0.15mm, contact our team to confirm whether a different configuration is more appropriate.

Q: Why buy from The Maker's Chest instead of directly from OMTech?
A: Our 75-day return window gives you real production evaluation time — significantly more than OMTech's direct policy — enough to assemble the workstation, run your actual batch jobs across the full 6.9" field, and confirm the 30W delivers what your business needs before you're locked in. Our USA-based expert support team is reachable by phone and email for assembly guidance, EzCad2 and LightBurn setup, batch layout optimization, and production troubleshooting. If you're deciding between the 30W and 50W split, we'll give you a straight recommendation.

General Delivery Timeframes
Delivery timeframes will vary dependent on your location and the items you've ordered.

In general, these are the delivery timeframes you can expect:

The above is intended to be used as a guide, and may not apply in all cases. Some products may have specific 'Delivery Timeframe' information, which can be found on its own tab, or on the main 'Description' tab of the product.

Home Delivery (Bulky Items)

  • This service is generally for products over 40kg in weight, as it is a requirement for these products to be palletised for delivery.
  • This service utilises power tailgates with two-man crews or crane trucks when required and this is included in the quoted price.
  • The receiver will be contacted prior to delivery to arrange a suitable delivery date and time. Deliveries are scheduled for either an AM or PM slot on any given day.
  • Delivery is to front car port, driveway, doorstep or wherever practical depending upon site access. Drivers are not permitted to move item(s) within the residence or around the property due to OHS reasons.
  • This service assumes reasonable and safe access to the site is available. Overhanging trees, steep driveways, unsealed driveways, narrow driveways or streets or an unforeseen obstruction may deem the delivery unavailable.
  • If your delivery address is in a regional or remote location, we recommend shipping to the nearest depot as the most affordable option.

Other Terms & Conditions

If you happen to miss the delivery, you will be required to pick up your item(s) from the freight company's depot. Re-delivery can be arranged to your home, however this will incur extra costs.

We can't advise on the exact time and day the delivery will occur as this is not within our control, however you will be emailed the tracking details where you will be able to contact the freight company for more accurate timeframes.

It is your responsibility to advise us if:

  • someone will be available to sign for delivery.
  • there's somewhere safe the item can be left if no one will be home.
  • if the address is a business address, as we will require the business hours of the business and name of the building.
  • you notice any damage. If so, you should make note of it when signing for delivery or do not agree to accept the delivery. If you do accept delivery you are required to immediately take photos using your smart phone or camera of the damaged packaging or products inside the packaging. If your item(s) do arrived damaged please send photos to support@themakerschest.com, then visit our returns page and lodge your return claim online.
