View full detailsYes β aluminum can be laser engraved, but the type of aluminum and the laser source matter significantly.
Bare aluminum reflects a high percentage of light, so fiber and UV lasers are used for permanent marking and deep engraving. Anodized or coated aluminum can also be engraved using diode or COβ lasers, where the laser removes the surface coating to reveal high-contrast markings underneath.
A 20W laser can engrave anodized and coated aluminum very effectively and is commonly used for nameplates, QR codes, logos, and aluminum tags. However, for raw, uncoated aluminum, a 20W diode or COβ system is not sufficient for permanent engraving β a fiber or UV laser is recommended for that application.
The ideal wattage depends on the aluminum type and production volume:
Higher wattage enables faster processing, deeper engraving, and better contrast.
A 40W COβ or diode laser can engrave coated or anodized aluminum beautifully but cannot engrave raw aluminum directly. For permanent marking, serial numbers, logos, and deep engraving on bare aluminum, a 40W fiber laser (not COβ) is required β making fiber the preferred solution for industrial aluminum engraving.
