OMTech MOPA 30W Compact Integrated Fiber Laser Marker Specifications

Where the 30W Fits — and Why the Power Step Matters

The OMTech MOPA compact integrated family spans 20W, 30W, and 60W configurations on the same physical platform. All three weigh approximately the same, measure identically, and share the same dual red dot locators, LightBurn compatibility, and integrated design. Here's what actually changes with the 30W:

More output than the 20W — with the same MOPA capability. The 30W delivers approximately 50% more laser power than the 20W. This translates to faster throughput on detail-heavy graphics, deeper marking per pass on harder metals, and a more comfortable operating margin during production shifts where the machine runs for extended periods. On detail-intensive marking jobs where the 20W needs to slow down or run multiple passes, the 30W completes efficiently in a single pass.

More accessible than the 60W — with identical MOPA features. The 60W is the right choice for high-volume shops running the machine aggressively all day. For studios and businesses doing strong but not full-shift production volume, the 30W provides the same MOPA color marking capability and the same marking quality at a more appropriate price-to-throughput ratio.

The 5.9" × 5.9" marking fieldnotably larger than the 20W MOPA's 4.3" × 4.3" field — accommodates wider nameplates, longer labels, bigger batch layouts, and more creative design space for the same compact machine footprint.

MOPA at 30W: Color, Precision, and the Full Capability Set

The key distinction between this machine and a standard galvo fiber laser isn't wattage — it's the MOPA laser architecture. MOPA (Master Oscillator Power Amplifier) gives you independently adjustable pulse width and frequency. Standard Q-switched fiber lasers have a fixed pulse — they mark metal in black, and that's the full range. MOPA opens the following:

Color marking on stainless steel and titanium. Varying pulse width and frequency creates controlled oxide layers of different thicknesses on the metal surface — different thicknesses reflect light at different wavelengths, producing visible colors. Golds, blues, reds, greens, and purples are all achievable once parameters are established for your material. For premium personalization, custom jewelry, branded merchandise, and awards, this directly increases the retail value of every piece you produce.

Dark marking on anodized aluminum. Standard fiber lasers at high frequency cause micro-cracking on anodized surfaces — the MOPA's adjustable pulse width produces clean, high-contrast dark marks without layer damage. For shops processing anodized tumblers, accessories, and hardware, this is the difference between marks that look professional and marks that look like something went wrong.

Sensitive material marking. Shorter pulse widths allow the MOPA to mark ABS, PC, and similar plastics without the burning or melting that fixed-pulse lasers cause.

OMTech MOPA 30W Compact Integrated Fiber Laser Marker Color Marking

5.9" × 5.9" Field With Dual Red Dot Precision Placement

The 30W MOPA's 5.9" × 5.9" (150 × 150mm) marking field is the right size for the majority of professional personalization and marking applications — wide enough for nameplates, full-sized business card blanks, larger trophy faces, multi-piece jewelry batches, and most common marking jobs, without the size or cost of an industrial large-format system.

Before every job, the dual red dot locators project two visible reference points onto the material surface — showing exactly where the center and boundary of the mark will land. Position your workpiece to the dual red dots, confirm placement visually, and fire the job.

For a personalization business marking individual pieces throughout the day where correct placement is the difference between a sale and a scrap, this pre-mark verification eliminates the test-burn and repositioning cycle on every material change. For batch runs where multiple pieces are positioned in a fixture layout, the dual red dots confirm that the layout is properly aligned before a full batch is committed.

10,000 mm/s — Production Throughput in a Desk-Sized Machine

Galvo fiber lasers reach 10,000 mm/s because mirrors redirect the laser beam without any mechanical mass moving. No gantry rail, no stepper motor moving a laser head, no inertia to overcome at direction changes. For production marking where speed compounds into revenue per hour, this is why galvo technology exists as a category.

At ±0.01mm marking accuracy, the MOPA 30W holds this speed without sacrificing the detail that makes marks valuable:

  • Fine logo artwork with clean line definition and smooth gradients at production velocity
  • Small text that remains legible — hallmarks, legal markings, and multi-line serial numbers at the sizes real applications require
  • QR codes and Data Matrix codes at sizes that scan reliably across the full marking field
  • Intricate decorative patterns on jewelry and gift items without blur or edge softening.

OMTech MOPA 30W Compact Integrated Fiber Laser Marker Boost Speed

Rotary Axis Ready — Expand From Flat to Cylindrical

The MOPA 30W includes a rotary axis connection port — enabling marking on rings, bracelets, bangles, pens, tumblers, and cylindrical objects with an optional rotary attachment.

For a jewelry business or personalization shop, the rotary capability turns one machine into two workflows: flat stock marking for nameplates, tags, and plaques, and cylindrical marking for the ring inscriptions, bracelet logos, and custom tumbler engravings that add significant revenue per piece. The rotary connects to the built-in port and handles the rotation automatically while the galvo handles the marking.

The rotary attachment is available as an optional add-on at checkout.

Compatible Materials — Honestly Scoped

MOPA color marking and dark marking:
Stainless steel, titanium, chromium, and other oxide-forming metals for full color marking. Anodized aluminum for clean dark marks without layer damage.

Standard fiber marking (black):
Gold, silver, platinum, brass, copper, aluminum (non-anodized), iron, and most alloys — permanent marking for logos, serial numbers, barcodes, and decorative engraving.

Compatible for surface marking:
Select hard plastics (ABS, PC), stone, granite, leather, and coated surfaces depending on material and settings.

Important distinction: The MOPA 30W is a surface marking and shallow engraving machine — not a CO₂-style cutting machine for wood, acrylic, or thick non-metal sheets. Within its design scope — metal marking, MOPA color effects, personalization, jewelry, serial numbers, barcodes — it excels.

LightBurn Native. macOS Ready. EzCad Available.

The MOPA 30W Integrated is natively compatible with LightBurn galvo mode on Windows and macOS — including native macOS support without Parallels or Boot Camp. For Mac-based jewelry studios and creative professionals, this is full-featured galvo marking software without any workaround.

EzCad is also bundled for Windows users who prefer the traditional galvo laser control environment.

Supported formats include BMP, GIF, JPG, JPEG, DXF, DST, and AI.

Frequently Asked Questions About OMTech MOPA 30W Compact Integrated Fiber Laser Marker

Q: Who is the MOPA 30W specifically designed for?
A: Growing personalization businesses and jewelry studios that have outgrown the 20W's throughput but aren't yet running the kind of full-shift production volume that justifies the 60W's cost. Shops producing custom metal gifts, jewelry inscriptions, anodized aluminum products, and branded merchandise where MOPA color capability is a business differentiator. Small manufacturers adding serial numbers, barcodes, or QR codes to metal parts who also want color marking flexibility. Anyone who wants mid-range MOPA performance in a compact, portable, desk-sized package.

Q: What's the practical difference between the MOPA 20W, 30W, and 60W?
A: All three share the same MOPA color marking capability, the same integrated compact form factor, and the same LightBurn compatibility. The differences are wattage, marking throughput, and field size. The 20W has a 4.3" × 4.3" field and suits light-volume marking. The 30W has a larger 5.9" × 5.9" field and ~50% more output power — better throughput on detail-heavy graphics, deeper per-pass marking on harder metals. The 60W is for full-shift production shops where the machine runs hard all day. For most growing personalization and jewelry businesses, the 30W is the right balance.

Q: How does MOPA color marking work at 30W?
A: MOPA's adjustable pulse width and frequency create controlled oxide layers of varying thickness on stainless steel and titanium surfaces. Different thicknesses refract light at different wavelengths, producing specific visible colors. At 30W, the MOPA has more energy per pulse than the 20W — which can produce more vivid color saturation and allow faster color marking passes on some materials. Color results always require parameter testing and calibration for your specific material grade, surface finish, and desired color.

Q: Does it mark anodized aluminum without damaging the anodized layer?
A: Yes — this is one of the primary MOPA advantages over standard galvo fiber lasers. The adjustable pulse width allows the MOPA to mark anodized aluminum with clean, high-contrast dark marks without the micro-cracking that fixed-pulse lasers cause at high frequency. The anodized layer remains intact around the mark.

Q: What's the difference between this and a standard galvo fiber laser at the same wattage?
A: A standard galvo fiber laser has a fixed pulse width — it marks in black only. The MOPA 30W adds independently adjustable pulse width and frequency, enabling: color marking on stainless and titanium, clean anodized aluminum marking, and gentler marking on sensitive plastics. If your work is entirely standard black marking, a galvo fiber laser is more cost-effective. If MOPA color or anodized aluminum is any part of your business, MOPA is the correct technology.

Q: Is it compatible with macOS?
A: Yes — LightBurn galvo mode runs natively on macOS with no workarounds. EzCad requires Windows (7, 8, 10, or 11). Mac users can use LightBurn as their primary interface with full galvo functionality.

Q: Can it engrave rings, tumblers, and cylindrical objects?
A: Yes, with an optional rotary axis attachment connecting to the built-in rotary port. Add it at checkout or contact our team for guidance on which rotary fits your cylindrical piece range.

Q: What is the laser source lifespan?
A: The JPT MOPA source carries a 100,000-hour estimated service life — approximately 50 years at 8 hours daily use. This is a buy-once investment in the laser source.

Q: Why buy from The Maker's Chest instead of directly from OMTech?
A: Our 75-day return window gives you significantly more evaluation time than OMTech's direct policy — enough to develop your MOPA parameter library, run your actual production jobs, and confirm the 30W is the right configuration for your business. Our USA-based expert support team is reachable by phone and email for LightBurn setup, MOPA color marking guidance, rotary configuration, and production support. If you're choosing between power levels or formats, we'll give you a straight recommendation before you order.

  • This service utilises power tailgates with two-man crews or crane trucks when required and this is included in the quoted price.
  • The receiver will be contacted prior to delivery to arrange a suitable delivery date and time. Deliveries are scheduled for either an AM or PM slot on any given day.
  • Delivery is to front car port, driveway, doorstep or wherever practical depending upon site access. Drivers are not permitted to move item(s) within the residence or around the property due to OHS reasons.
  • This service assumes reasonable and safe access to the site is available. Overhanging trees, steep driveways, unsealed driveways, narrow driveways or streets or an unforeseen obstruction may deem the delivery unavailable.
  • If your delivery address is in a regional or remote location, we recommend shipping to the nearest depot as the most affordable option.
