OMTech MOPA 60W Split Fiber Laser Engraver Specifications

Split Design vs. Compact Integrated — Why It Matters

Most of the other MOPA fiber lasers in the OMTech lineup are compact integrated units — all components in a single self-contained cabinet. The MOPA 60W Split separates the machine into two elements: the laser source unit and the marking column with processing platform.

This design offers meaningful advantages for production workflows:

Larger workbed access. The split workstation format gives operators more physical clearance around the work platform — making it easier to load and unload larger parts, fixture unusual shapes, and work with parts that have complex geometries that would be difficult inside a compact enclosed cabinet.

Flexible positioning. The source unit and column are separate elements that can be positioned in a workshop layout more freely than an integrated unit. For shops arranging equipment around a specific workflow, this layout flexibility is a practical advantage.

Dedicated production station. The split design creates a clear, dedicated marking workstation — the kind of setup that signals professional-grade production capability to a client or customer who visits the shop, and that supports a more ergonomic long-session workflow for an operator who marks all day.

The tradeoff: The split design is larger and requires more bench space than an integrated unit. It's not the choice for a compact home studio setup — it's the right machine for a real production environment where the workspace can accommodate a full workstation.

6.9" × 6.9" Marking Field — The Advantage Over 5.9" Configurations

The MOPA 60W Split's 6.9" × 6.9" (175 × 175mm) marking area is larger than the 5.9" × 5.9" (150 × 150mm) field on most competing configurations in this class. The difference in area is approximately 36% — and it compounds in production contexts.

More pieces per batch layout. Fitting more parts in a single field setup means fewer load-and-unload cycles per production hour. For a shop marking metal tags, jewelry pieces, or branded components in consistent batches, the larger field directly increases throughput without additional machine time.

Larger individual pieces. Items that barely fit or need repositioning within a 5.9" field — wider nameplates, longer labels, larger awards faces — fit cleanly within the 6.9" field without job splitting.

More creative design space. For personalization work where the design fills the piece, the extra field area supports larger artwork, wider logo layouts, and more detailed patterns on full-size blanks.

At 60W MOPA output behind this field size, the Galvo-Tech scanning system maintains consistent beam quality and marking accuracy across the full 6.9" × 6.9" area — ensuring that marks at the corners perform equivalently to marks at the center.

OMTech MOPA 60W Split Fiber Laser Engraver Scanning System

MOPA Color Marking — The Capability That Defines the Revenue Premium

The JPT MOPA laser source's adjustable pulse width (2–500 ns) and pulse frequency (1–4,000 kHz) are the technical parameters that enable color marking — and that distinguish every MOPA machine from a standard Q-switched galvo fiber laser.

Standard galvo fiber lasers mark metal in black. MOPA adds the ability to create controlled oxide layers of different thicknesses on stainless steel and titanium surfaces — each thickness reflecting light at a different wavelength — producing the visible color spectrum.

For a personalization or custom gift business, this directly increases the price point and perceived quality of every piece. A black-engraved stainless ring and a gold-color-marked stainless ring are the same base material, same machine time, and a different retail price. MOPA color marking is the capability that creates that pricing gap.

The same MOPA pulse control also enables:

Dark marking on anodized aluminum — clean, high-contrast results without the micro-cracking that standard fiber lasers cause on anodized surfaces.

Sensitive plastic marking — shorter pulse widths allow marking on ABS, PC, and similar materials without burning or melting.

Precise depth control — the full pulse width range enables both very shallow surface marking and deeper engraving on the same machine, depending on parameter settings.

60W + JPT — The Production-Grade Source Behind the Performance

The MOPA 60W Split is powered by a JPT MOPA laser source — one of the most respected fiber laser source manufacturers in the industry, with a rated service life of 100,000 hours. At 8 hours daily, 250 days per year, that's approximately 50 years of rated operation. The laser source is a buy-once investment.

The 60W output is the highest power in OMTech's compact-and-split MOPA fiber laser range. Compared to 20W and 30W MOPA configurations, the 60W delivers:

  • Faster throughput on complex graphics and dense batch runs
  • Deeper marking per pass on harder metals
  • More operating headroom during extended shifts
  • Better performance on the demanding end of the MOPA color spectrum, where higher peak pulse energy produces more vivid and consistent color results

The ±0.1 micrometer positioning accuracy — the specified accuracy for this machine — is a sub-micron specification, enabling fine-feature marking that requires the highest precision the technology delivers.

2-year warranty on the complete machine — one of the stronger warranty commitments available on a production fiber laser marking machine in this class.

OMTech MOPA 60W Split Fiber Laser Engraver Rotary Axis Compatible

Air-Cooled. Foot Switch Included. Production-Ready From Day One.

The MOPA 60W Split uses air cooling — no water chiller, no plumbing, no coolant management. For a production shop where operational simplicity matters, the air-cooled design means the machine is operational the day it arrives with no additional infrastructure.

The included foot switch enables hands-free job triggering — step on the pedal, the job fires, hands stay on the part positioning. For high-volume batch runs where the operator is continuously loading and positioning pieces, hands-free triggering eliminates the awkward reach for a software trigger or keyboard between every mark cycle.

The package includes everything needed to start production from day one: MOPA 60W Split engraver, positioning bars, attaching bolts, tape measure, USB flash drive with EzCad2 software, protective eyewear, foot switch, power cable, hex wrench set, tool box, and instruction manual.

EzCad2 and LightBurn — Your Software, Your Workflow

The MOPA 60W Split ships with EzCad2 on USB drive — the industry standard for galvo fiber laser control on Windows (XP through Windows 10, 32/64-bit). EzCad2 provides direct access to all MOPA pulse parameters, color marking settings, barcode and QR code generation, rotary axis control, and advanced marking functions.

LightBurn galvo mode is also compatible — and is available as a bundle option at checkout. For operators already using LightBurn for CO₂ or other laser machines, the workflow transfers directly. LightBurn runs on Windows and macOS.

Supported file formats include AI, BMP, DXF, GIF, JPG, PLT, PNG, TGA, and TIF.

Frequently Asked Questions About OMTech MOPA 60W Split Fiber Laser Engraver

Q: What's the main reason to choose the split workstation design over a compact integrated MOPA?
A: The split design provides a more flexible workstation layout — larger physical clearance around the processing platform for loading and unloading larger or awkward parts, dedicated workstation ergonomics for operators marking all day, and a professional production-station configuration. If you're setting up a dedicated marking workstation in a real production shop, the split design is the right form factor. If you need compact footprint or portability, the integrated design is the better fit.

Q: How does the 6.9" × 6.9" field compare to 5.9" × 5.9" configurations?
A: The 6.9" field provides approximately 36% more marking area than a 5.9" field. In batch production, this means more pieces per layout, fewer load-and-unload cycles, and higher throughput per machine hour. For individual pieces, it accommodates wider nameplates, larger logo artwork, and bigger personalization layouts without field splitting. The JPT MOPA source at 60W maintains beam quality and accuracy across the full 6.9" area with the Galvo-Tech scanning system.

Q: What is MOPA and why is it important?
A: MOPA (Master Oscillator Power Amplifier) gives you adjustable control over pulse width (2–500 ns) and frequency (1–4,000 kHz) — capabilities that standard Q-switched galvo fiber lasers don't have. This adjustability enables: color marking on stainless steel and titanium, clean dark marking on anodized aluminum without micro-cracking, gentle plastic marking without burning, and precise depth control. If color marking or anodized aluminum is any part of your business, MOPA is the correct laser technology.

Q: Does it require a water chiller?
A: No — the MOPA 60W Split is air-cooled. No water chiller, no plumbing, no coolant maintenance. Plug in the power cable and it's operational.

Q: What does the foot switch do?
A: The included foot switch triggers the marking job hands-free — step on the pedal to fire the laser, keeping both hands free for part positioning and loading. For batch production runs where the operator is continuously handling pieces, hands-free triggering meaningfully improves cycle efficiency and reduces the reach-and-click interruption between marks.

Q: Can I engrave tumblers, rings, and cylindrical objects?
A: Yes, with a compatible rotary axis attachment (available as an optional add-on). The rotary enables marking on rings, bracelets, pens, tumblers, and cylindrical components. Contact our team for guidance on which rotary configuration fits your specific piece sizes.

Q: What software is compatible?
A: EzCad2 is included on USB drive — compatible with Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, and 10 (32/64-bit). LightBurn galvo mode is also compatible and available as a bundle option at checkout. LightBurn runs on Windows and macOS.

Q: What's the warranty?
A: 2-year warranty on the complete machine. The JPT laser source is rated at 100,000 hours MTTF — approximately 50 years at 8 hours daily use.

Q: What are the positioning accuracy specifications?
A: The MOPA 60W Split specifies ±0.1 micrometer positioning accuracy — a sub-micron specification that enables fine-feature marking, dense QR codes at small sizes, and detailed artwork with crisp edge definition that requires the highest precision the galvo technology delivers.

Q: Why buy from The Maker's Chest instead of directly from OMTech?
A: Our 75-day return window gives you significantly more evaluation time than OMTech's direct policy — enough to set up the workstation, run your MOPA color marking parameter development, and confirm the 6.9" split configuration delivers at production scale. Our USA-based expert support team is reachable by phone and email for EzCad2 and LightBurn setup, MOPA color marking guidance, foot switch integration, and production troubleshooting throughout your ownership.

  • This service utilises power tailgates with two-man crews or crane trucks when required and this is included in the quoted price.
  • The receiver will be contacted prior to delivery to arrange a suitable delivery date and time. Deliveries are scheduled for either an AM or PM slot on any given day.
  • Delivery is to front car port, driveway, doorstep or wherever practical depending upon site access. Drivers are not permitted to move item(s) within the residence or around the property due to OHS reasons.
  • This service assumes reasonable and safe access to the site is available. Overhanging trees, steep driveways, unsealed driveways, narrow driveways or streets or an unforeseen obstruction may deem the delivery unavailable.
  • If your delivery address is in a regional or remote location, we recommend shipping to the nearest depot as the most affordable option.
