OMTech MOPA 60W Compact Integrated Fiber Laser Marker Specifications

Compact Integrated vs. Autofocus Workstation — Which Is Right for You?

OMTech's MOPA 60W line includes both this compact integrated model and a larger autofocus workstation version. Understanding the difference helps you choose correctly before ordering.

The compact integrated 60W (this machine) combines the laser source, galvo head, control electronics, and workbed into a single self-contained unit. It weighs 38 lbs., measures just 15.7" × 13.3" × 21.6", and can be placed on a desk, carried between locations, or stored when not in use. Manual focus adjustment sets the focal height by positioning the material relative to a reference distance. This configuration is ideal for operators who work at a consistent material height, value portability and small footprint, or want the most space-efficient MOPA setup possible.

The autofocus workstation 60W is a larger arm-style machine with motorized one-click autofocus, a taller tower, and a larger workbed area. It's the right choice when you're regularly switching between materials of different heights and want the autofocus to eliminate that setup step.

If you're setting up a compact, dedicated marking station for everyday personalization at a consistent material height — the integrated 60W is the better fit. If you're running varied material types throughout the day and want autofocus repeatability, the workstation version deserves a look. Our team can help you decide.

60W MOPA: Color Marking and Dark Aluminum in One Machine

The core reason to choose the MOPA 60W over a standard galvo fiber laser is the capability that MOPA's adjustable pulse parameters unlock.

Standard Q-switched galvo fiber lasers mark metal in black — fast, precise, and cost-effective for serial numbers, barcodes, and logos. MOPA (Master Oscillator Power Amplifier) adds independent control over pulse width (adjustable range) and pulse frequency — two parameters that fixed-pulse lasers cannot change. This adjustability is what enables:

Full color marking on stainless steel and titanium. By varying pulse width and frequency, the laser creates controlled oxide layers of different thicknesses on the metal surface. Different thicknesses reflect light at different wavelengths — producing visible colors. Golds, blues, reds, greens, purples, and gradients between them are achievable once parameters are established for your specific material. For custom personalization businesses producing premium metal gifts, this directly increases the retail price and perceived value of the finished product.

Dark black marking on anodized aluminum. Standard fiber lasers cause micro-cracking on anodized surfaces at high frequency. The MOPA's adjustable pulse width produces clean, high-contrast black marks on anodized aluminum without damaging the anodized layer — critical for brands that mark their own products or shops that process anodized tumblers, accessories, and hardware.

Gentle plastic marking. Adjusted to shorter pulse widths, the MOPA can mark sensitive plastics without the thermal damage that fixed-pulse lasers cause.

OMTech MOPA 60W Compact Integrated Fiber Laser Marker Color Marking

38 Lbs. One-Piece. Carry It Where You Need It.

At 38 lbs. in a 15.7" × 13.3" × 21.6" footprint, the integrated MOPA 60W is categorically different from autofocus workstation machines in terms of placement flexibility.

For studios where the laser shares a desk with other equipment, a 38 lb. machine that fits a corner of the workbench doesn't compromise anything else. For makers who attend markets, trade shows, or client demonstration events, the integrated 60W can be transported in an SUV or van without freight arrangements. For businesses working from a home studio where the laser needs to be stored between sessions, a 38 lb. unit moves and stores easily.

The JPT laser source — one of the most respected fiber laser source manufacturers in the industry — carries an estimated 100,000-hour service life. At 8 hours daily, that's approximately 50 years of rated operation. This is not a machine you replace.

10,000 mm/s. ±0.01mm. Production Speed at a Compact Scale.

The galvo scanning system delivers 10,000 mm/s marking speed — not because the machine moves physically, but because high-speed mirrors redirect the laser beam without any mechanical mass to accelerate and decelerate. This is the fundamental speed advantage of galvo technology over gantry CO₂ machines.

At 10,000 mm/s with ±0.01mm marking accuracy, the MOPA 60W integrated completes:

  • A fine logo with detailed line work in seconds, not minutes
  • A QR code at small sizes that remain machine-scannable
  • A serial number batch in a fraction of the time a CO₂ gantry would require
  • Photorealistic grayscale artwork on compatible metals with smooth tonal transitions

The 5.9" × 5.9" (150 × 150mm) marking area handles the full range of typical marking applications — jewelry, dog tags, business cards, small trophies, product components, and personalized gifts — with consistent beam quality across the full field.

OMTech MOPA 60W Compact Integrated Fiber Laser Marker High Accuracy

LightBurn Native. EzCad2 Compatible.

The OMTech MOPA 60W Integrated is natively compatible with LightBurn galvo mode on both Windows and macOS — no special drivers, no workarounds. For users who already use LightBurn for CO₂ or diode laser machines, the interface and workflow transfer directly.

EzCad2 is also compatible for Windows users who prefer the industry-standard galvo fiber laser control software.

Supported file formats include BMP, GIF, JPG, JPEG, DXF, DST, and AI — covering the full range of design and illustration formats used in personalization and production marking workflows.

What It Marks — Honestly Positioned

Strong fit materials (marking, engraving, and MOPA color marking):
Stainless steel, anodized aluminum, titanium, chromium, gold, silver, platinum, brass, copper, iron, and most common alloys.

Compatible for surface marking:
Select hard plastics (ABS, PC, similar), coated metal surfaces, leather, and wood at surface level.

What to be clear about: This is a fiber laser marking machine — not a CO₂-style cutting machine. It marks and engraves surfaces to shallow depths; it does not cut wood, acrylic, or thick non-metal sheet material. For thick material cutting, a CO₂ laser is the right tool. Within its design scope — metal marking, color marking, serial numbers, logos, barcodes, jewelry personalization — the MOPA 60W Integrated excels.

Frequently Asked Questions About OMTech MOPA 60W Compact Integrated Fiber Laser Marker

Q: What is the main difference between this integrated MOPA 60W and the autofocus workstation MOPA 60W?
A: The laser source, MOPA capability, marking speed, and accuracy are identical. The differences are in physical format and focus method. The integrated 60W (this machine) is a compact, all-in-one unit — 38 lbs., 15.7" × 13.3" × 21.6", manual focus, genuinely portable. The autofocus workstation 60W is a larger arm-style machine with motorized one-click autofocus and a taller, larger footprint. Choose the integrated version for space efficiency, portability, and consistent material height work. Choose the autofocus workstation when you switch between materials of different heights frequently and want autofocus to handle the focal adjustment automatically.

Q: What is MOPA and why does it matter for my work?
A: MOPA (Master Oscillator Power Amplifier) gives you adjustable control over pulse width and frequency — two parameters that standard Q-switched fiber lasers cannot change. This adjustability enables: full color marking on stainless steel and titanium (golds, blues, reds, greens, purples); clean dark marking on anodized aluminum without micro-cracking; and gentle marking on sensitive plastics. If color marking or anodized aluminum are any part of your application, MOPA is the correct technology. If your work is entirely standard black marking for serial numbers and barcodes, a standard galvo fiber laser is sufficient at a lower cost.

Q: Does it produce color marks on all metals?
A: No — color marking works specifically on stainless steel, titanium, and chromium (and some other metals with the right oxide-forming properties). It does not produce color marks on gold, aluminum (non-anodized), or most non-ferrous metals. For dark marking on anodized aluminum, the MOPA produces clean high-contrast black marks without damaging the anodized layer. Color marking requires parameter testing and calibration specific to your material.

Q: Is it compatible with macOS?
A: Yes. LightBurn galvo mode runs natively on macOS — no workarounds, no drivers, no Parallels required. This is one of the practical advantages of the MOPA 60W Integrated's LightBurn compatibility over machines that require Windows-only EzCad2.

Q: How does manual focus work on this machine?
A: The integrated 60W uses a reference spacer to set the focal distance — position the spacer between the galvo head and the material surface to achieve the correct focal height. Once set, remove the spacer and mark. For shops working at a consistent material height (flat metal blanks, consistent tag thickness), this one-time setup per material type is fast and repeatable. For shops switching frequently between materials of very different heights, the autofocus workstation eliminates this step.

Q: Can I engrave tumblers and cylindrical objects?
A: Yes, with a compatible rotary axis attachment. A 70mm rotary axis is available as an optional add-on for this machine, enabling marking on rings, bracelets, pens, tumblers, and cylindrical products.

Q: What's the laser source lifespan?
A: The JPT MOPA fiber laser source carries a 100,000-hour estimated service life. At 8 hours daily, 250 working days per year, that's approximately 50 years of rated operation before the source approaches end of life.

Q: What's included in the box?
A: The fiber laser engraver unit, tool box, protective eyewear, USB flash drive with software, ruler, USB cable, set of hex wrenches, and instruction manual.

Q: Why buy from The Maker's Chest instead of directly from OMTech?
A: Our 75-day return window gives you real production evaluation time — enough to set up the machine, develop your color marking parameters, and confirm the integrated format works for your specific setup before you're locked in. Our USA-based expert support team is reachable by phone and email for LightBurn and EzCad2 setup, MOPA parameter guidance for color marking, and production troubleshooting. If you're deciding between the integrated and autofocus versions, we'll give you a straight answer before you order.

Delivery timeframes will vary dependent on your location and the items you've ordered.

In general, these are the delivery timeframes you can expect:

The above is intended to be used as a guide, and may not apply in all cases. Some products may have specific 'Delivery Timeframe' information, which can be found on its own tab, or on the main 'Description' tab of the product.

Home Delivery (Bulky Items)

  • This service is generally for products over 40kg in weight, as it is a requirement for these products to be palletised for delivery.
  • This service utilises power tailgates with two-man crews or crane trucks when required and this is included in the quoted price.
  • The receiver will be contacted prior to delivery to arrange a suitable delivery date and time. Deliveries are scheduled for either an AM or PM slot on any given day.
  • Delivery is to front car port, driveway, doorstep or wherever practical depending upon site access. Drivers are not permitted to move item(s) within the residence or around the property due to OHS reasons.
  • This service assumes reasonable and safe access to the site is available. Overhanging trees, steep driveways, unsealed driveways, narrow driveways or streets or an unforeseen obstruction may deem the delivery unavailable.
  • If your delivery address is in a regional or remote location, we recommend shipping to the nearest depot as the most affordable option.

Other Terms & Conditions

If you happen to miss the delivery, you will be required to pick up your item(s) from the freight company's depot. Re-delivery can be arranged to your home, however this will incur extra costs.

We can't advise on the exact time and day the delivery will occur as this is not within our control, however you will be emailed the tracking details where you will be able to contact the freight company for more accurate timeframes.

It is your responsibility to advise us if:

  • someone will be available to sign for delivery.
  • there's somewhere safe the item can be left if no one will be home.
  • if the address is a business address, as we will require the business hours of the business and name of the building.
  • you notice any damage. If so, you should make note of it when signing for delivery or do not agree to accept the delivery. If you do accept delivery you are required to immediately take photos using your smart phone or camera of the damaged packaging or products inside the packaging. If your item(s) do arrived damaged please send photos to support@themakerschest.com, then visit our returns page and lodge your return claim online.
