OMTech MOPA 30W Split Fiber Laser Engraver Specifications

Why MOPA at 30W — Not Just a Cheaper Fiber Laser

The most important distinction this machine makes isn't wattage — it's the laser source technology. The MOPA 30W Split uses a JPT MOPA (Master Oscillator Power Amplifier) source, and the MOPA architecture is what enables capabilities that standard Q-switched galvo fiber lasers at any wattage cannot provide.

Standard galvo fiber lasers — including the OMTech Galvo 30W and 50W Split — mark metal in black. That's their full marking mode. MOPA adds independent control over pulse width (2–500 ns) and pulse frequency (1–4,000 kHz). That adjustability unlocks three capabilities that define what MOPA machines can produce:

Color marking on stainless steel and titanium. Varying pulse width and frequency creates controlled oxide layers at different thicknesses on the metal surface. Different thicknesses refract light at different wavelengths — producing specific visible colors. Golds, blues, reds, greens, purples, and gradients between them are all achievable once parameters are dialed in for your material.

Dark marking on anodized aluminum. Standard fiber lasers cause micro-cracking on anodized surfaces at high frequency. The MOPA's adjustable pulse width produces clean, high-contrast dark marks without layer damage — the standard for shops producing branded tumblers, hardware, and anodized accessories.

Gentle plastic marking. Shorter pulse widths let the MOPA mark ABS, PC, and engineering plastics without the burning that fixed-pulse lasers cause — the same machine that marks hard steel can mark a plastic housing in the next cycle.

For a personalization business where the MOPA color capability directly increases product retail price, or a manufacturer who marks both metal components and plastic housings on the same machine, MOPA is the required technology regardless of wattage.

30W in the MOPA Split Context — What It Delivers and Where It Lands

The OMTech MOPA Split series spans 30W, 60W, 80W, and 100W configurations. The 30W is the entry point — and for many applications, it's not just the most accessible choice, it's the appropriate one.

30W MOPA is right for:

  • Personalization businesses producing custom gifts, nameplates, jewelry, and branded products where MOPA color marking quality matters more than maximum throughput
  • Jewelry studios where the majority of daily work involves small pieces with fine detail — hallmarks, inscriptions, small logo marks on gold, silver, and stainless
  • Small manufacturers adding serial numbers, QR codes, and traceability marks to components in modest daily volumes
  • Shops where the machine handles 1–4 hours of active marking per day rather than full continuous production shifts

Where stepping up to 60W makes more sense:
If your shop runs the MOPA laser for 6+ hours daily, processes predominately harder metals at production volumes, or needs the additional marking depth (0.10mm at 60W vs 0.08mm at 30W) for demanding traceability applications — the 60W is the right upgrade. Our team can help you evaluate this honestly before you order.

6.9" × 6.9" Marking Field — Production-Scale Coverage at 30W

The MOPA 30W Split's 6.9" × 6.9" (175 × 175mm) marking field is larger than the 4.3" × 4.3" field found on most compact integrated MOPA machines at comparable or higher price points — including the OMTech MOPA 20W Integrated.

The larger field provides:

More pieces per batch layout. For a personalization shop marking metal tags, jewelry pieces, or component IDs in consistent batches, fitting more pieces per setup means fewer load-and-unload cycles and more marked pieces per shift without additional labor.

Larger individual pieces in a single pass. Nameplates, award plaques, longer labels, and wider components that would require field splitting on a 4.3" machine fit within the 6.9" field without repositioning.

More design freedom. For creative personalization work where the design fills the piece, the larger field supports wider artwork layouts and more creative compositions without cropping constraints.

OMTech MOPA 30W Split Fiber Laser Engraver Engrave Anywhere

Split Workstation Design — Open Access, Ergonomic, Dedicated Station

The MOPA 30W Split separates the laser source unit from the marking column and processing platform — creating a dedicated workstation layout rather than a compact enclosed cabinet.

Open platform access. Parts load below the galvo head without enclosure constraints — larger pieces, fixtures, and irregular shapes position easily without the reach-in limitation of a compact enclosed machine.

Column height adjustment. The support column positions the galvo head at the correct focal distance and working height for your bench and posture — meaningful for operators marking through extended sessions where ergonomics affect sustained focus and output quality.

Dedicated production station identity. The split workstation layout creates a defined marking station in your shop environment — a setup that signals professional-grade operation to clients, team members, and anyone evaluating your production capability.

The included foot switch enables hands-free job triggering throughout batch runs — step to fire, both hands on parts throughout the session.

Air-Cooled. EzCad2 and LightBurn. Day-One Ready.

The MOPA 30W Split uses air cooling — no water chiller, no plumbing, no coolant management. Plug in the power cable and it's operational. For a personalization business or small production shop where operational simplicity is as important as machine capability, this matters.

EzCad2 is included on USB drive — compatible with Windows XP through Windows 10 (32/64-bit). Full MOPA pulse parameter access, color marking settings, batch array layouts, barcode and QR code generation, and all standard galvo marking functions.

LightBurn galvo mode is compatible, available as a bundle option at checkout — the right choice for Mac-based operators or users already using LightBurn for other machines.

The JPT MOPA source carries a 100,000-hour rated service life — approximately 50 years at 8 hours daily. 2-year machine warranty included.

Supported file formats: AI, BMP, DXF, GIF, JPG, PLT, PNG, TGA, TIF.

Frequently Asked Questions About OMTech MOPA 30W Split Fiber Laser Engraver

Q: Is the MOPA 30W powerful enough for serious production, or is it just an entry-level machine?
A: The 30W MOPA Split is an entry-level machine in the sense that it's the lowest-wattage configuration in the MOPA Split series. It's not a compromise machine — it's the right tool for specific production profiles. For shops where the laser marks 1–4 hours daily on jewelry, tags, nameplates, and mixed-material components, and where MOPA color marking quality matters more than maximum throughput, the 30W is genuinely appropriate. For shops running the laser 6+ continuous hours daily at high volume on hard metals, the 60W is the correct step up. Contact our team with your volume and materials and we'll tell you which configuration fits.

Q: What is MOPA and why does it matter at 30W?
A: MOPA gives you adjustable pulse width and frequency — capabilities a standard Q-switched fiber laser can't provide. At 30W, MOPA enables: full color marking on stainless steel and titanium, clean dark marking on anodized aluminum without micro-cracking, and gentle plastic marking without burning. The MOPA capability is fully available at 30W — the difference from 60W is throughput speed and maximum depth, not the presence or absence of color marking.

Q: What's the marking depth of the 30W vs the 60W MOPA Split?
A: The 30W MOPA Split reaches 0.08mm maximum single-pass depth. The 60W MOPA Split reaches 0.10mm. The 80W reaches 0.13mm and the 100W reaches 0.15mm. For most jewelry marking, personalization, and shallow traceability applications, 0.08mm is sufficient. For applications where mark permanence after coating, anodizing, or industrial handling is specified, the higher-wattage configurations provide more compliant depth.

Q: Why does the split design have a 6.9" field while compact integrated MOPA machines have 4.3" or 5.9"?
A: The split workstation design accommodates a larger galvo head and field lens than most compact integrated enclosures allow. The 6.9" × 6.9" field is one of the direct benefits of the split format — more pieces per batch layout, larger individual pieces in a single pass, and more creative design space — compared to what most compact integrated MOPA machines at this wattage level provide.

Q: Does it need a water chiller?
A: No. The MOPA 30W Split is air-cooled — no water chiller, no plumbing, no coolant. Plug in and start marking.

Q: What does the foot switch do?
A: Hands-free job triggering throughout batch runs. Step on the pedal to fire the laser — both hands stay on parts. Removes the reach-and-click between pieces and improves cycle efficiency across a full production session.

Q: Is it compatible with macOS?
A: Yes via LightBurn galvo mode, which runs natively on macOS. EzCad2 requires Windows. Mac-based operators use LightBurn as the primary interface. Add LightBurn as a bundle option at checkout.

Q: What is the warranty and laser source lifespan?
A: 2-year machine warranty. The JPT MOPA laser source carries a 100,000-hour estimated service life — approximately 50 years at 8 hours daily use.

Q: Why buy from The Maker's Chest instead of directly from OMTech?
A: Our 75-day return window gives you real production evaluation time — significantly more than OMTech's direct policy — enough to develop your MOPA color marking parameters, run real jobs across the full 6.9" field, and confirm the 30W delivers for your specific business before you're locked in. Our USA-based expert support team is reachable by phone and email for EzCad2 and LightBurn setup, color marking guidance, and production troubleshooting. If you're choosing between 30W and 60W, we'll give you a straight recommendation before you order.

Home Delivery (Bulky Items)

  • This service is generally for products over 40kg in weight, as it is a requirement for these products to be palletised for delivery.
  • This service utilises power tailgates with two-man crews or crane trucks when required and this is included in the quoted price.
  • The receiver will be contacted prior to delivery to arrange a suitable delivery date and time. Deliveries are scheduled for either an AM or PM slot on any given day.
  • Delivery is to front car port, driveway, doorstep or wherever practical depending upon site access. Drivers are not permitted to move item(s) within the residence or around the property due to OHS reasons.
  • This service assumes reasonable and safe access to the site is available. Overhanging trees, steep driveways, unsealed driveways, narrow driveways or streets or an unforeseen obstruction may deem the delivery unavailable.
  • If your delivery address is in a regional or remote location, we recommend shipping to the nearest depot as the most affordable option.

We can't advise on the exact time and day the delivery will occur as this is not within our control, however you will be emailed the tracking details where you will be able to contact the freight company for more accurate timeframes.
