The Complete Sunstone Jewelry Welding System — Everything You Need to Start Welding Precious Metals, Right Out of the Box

Jewelry welding is only as good as the complete setup — welder, shielding gas, and regulator working together from the first weld. This bundle pairs the Sunstone Orion 150x pulse arc welder with a 50 scf refillable argon tank and premium argon regulator, giving you a fully configured, argon-ready jewelry welding workstation with nothing left to source separately.

Why This Bundle Exists

Buying a pulse arc welder and then figuring out the argon setup separately is the most common friction point for jewelers entering precision welding. Which tank? Which regulator? Will it fit? Is the purity right for precious metals? Do the connections match the welder?

This bundle removes every one of those questions. The Orion 150x, the argon tank, and the premium regulator are specified and matched by Sunstone as the correct combination for jewelry welding. You receive a complete, immediately usable system — plug in the welder, connect the regulator to the tank, attach the argon line, and weld.

What's in This Bundle

1. Sunstone Orion 150x Pulse Arc Welder

Sunstone Orion 150x Pulse Arc Welder for Jewelry & Repair with digital display and 'orion 150x' branding on a white background

The Orion 150x is the benchmark for professional pulse arc welding — trusted by major jewelry brands including James Avery, Pandora, and Zales, and thousands of independent studios worldwide. It delivers 1 to 150 joules of weld energy in 0.2 joule increments, controlled through an 8" color touchscreen with no analog dials or knobs.

For jewelry specifically, the 150x provides the capabilities that matter most:

  • Weld next to stones — the precision of pulse arc technology delivers heat only at the weld point, protecting stones and settings that conventional methods would damage or require removal
  • Full metal compatibility — gold (all karats), silver, platinum, palladium, and all standard precious and non-precious jewelry metals
  • 0.5–3.5mm weld spot range — fine enough for chain repair and prong tips, broad enough for fill work and larger repairs
  • Tru-Fire Technology® — consistent, reliable arc ignition on every trigger actuation, including at low energy settings where other welders misfire
  • WeldIQ™ and Smart Energy Release — delivers only the energy requested, preventing overheating on heat-sensitive stones and settings
  • Stylus-mounted energy adjustment buttons — increase or decrease energy without breaking your gaze from the workpiece
  • Save up to 100 weld schedules — configure parameters for gold, silver, platinum, chain repair, prong work, and any other recurring application, then recall them instantly
  • 3-year manufacturer's warranty — made in the USA

2. Sunstone Premium Argon Gas Regulator

The Premium Argon Gas Regulator connects the argon tank to the Orion 150x and manages gas flow between the two. It provides clear dual-gauge readouts — one showing tank pressure (how much gas remains) and one showing line pressure (the flow to the welder). This allows the operator to monitor both remaining supply and current flow rate at a glance, without interrupting the workflow.

This regulator is specifically matched to the Sunstone argon tank and Orion welding systems — guaranteed compatibility, no adapter hunting, no connection surprises.

3. Sunstone Premium Argon Tank (50 scf, Refillable)

Sunstone's premium argon is 99.996% pure argon (Argon 4.6 grade) — not a mixed gas, not an economy-grade blend. At this purity level, the argon provides maximum weld quality: clean arc ignition, stable arc performance, and complete protection of the molten weld pool from atmospheric contamination.

Tank specifications:

  • Size: 50 scf (cubic feet)
  • Dimensions: 27" height × 7" diameter
  • Weight: 44 lbs
  • Refillable: Yes — order a refill from Sunstone delivered to your door, or refill at any local argon gas supplier

At 50 scf, this tank provides long-term working supply — enough for extended bench sessions, studio production work, or permanent jewelry events without the constant concern of running low mid-session.

What Argon Does — and Why Purity Matters

During pulse arc welding, metals reach temperatures upwards of 7,000 degrees Fahrenheit — hot enough to become momentarily liquid and form the weld. At those temperatures, the molten metal is extremely reactive. Without shielding, oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen in the atmosphere react with the weld pool, causing:

  • Porosity — small gas pockets trapped in the weld that create pockmarks, weaken the bond, and compromise the appearance of the finished piece
  • Excess spatter — metal scattered around the weld point, requiring cleanup and risking damage to surrounding surfaces
  • Unstable arc — inconsistent ignition and poor penetration

Argon forms an inert blanket around the weld zone, displacing atmospheric gases before they can react with the molten metal. The result is a cleaner, stronger, more visually refined weld — with less porosity, less spatter, and more consistent arc stability. At 99.996% purity, Sunstone's argon provides the most effective shielding available for precious metal work.

What This System Is Used For

The Orion 150x with argon is the most capable and versatile pulse arc welding setup for jewelry applications:

Jewelry repair — ring sizing, prong retipping, setting repair, porosity filling, crack repair, and metal addition on gold, silver, and platinum pieces. The laser-like precision of pulse arc technology allows welding immediately adjacent to stones without heat damage or removal.

Jewelry fabrication — constructing original pieces from component metals, joining dissimilar metal sections, extending prongs, building settings, and creating assemblies that require a strong, clean metallurgical bond.

Permanent jewelry — applying bracelet and anklet chains without clasps by welding the ends together directly. The 150x is one of the most widely used welders for permanent jewelry applications — its combination of precise energy control and clean arc ignition produces the strong, fine, presentable welds that permanent jewelry demands.

Watch and eyewear repair — case repair, bracelet link bonding, frame hinge repair, and crown attachment on stainless, titanium, and precious metal pieces.

Dental lab work — crown and bridge repair, clasp attachment, and precision prosthetic metalwork where weld accuracy and material compatibility are critical.

Choosing Your Configuration: Which Welder Variant?

This bundle is available with the Orion 150x at its standard configuration. If you are considering whether the 150x or the 200x is the right welder for your studio, here is the practical guidance:

Choose the Orion 150x bundle if: your work centers on jewelry repair, ring sizing, prong retipping, permanent jewelry, and general bench fabrication on standard precious metals. The 150x handles all of these applications with excellent precision and control at a price point that delivers a faster return on investment for most studios. It is the right tool for the vast majority of professional jewelers.

Consider the Orion 200x instead if: you regularly work on challenging alloys (platinum, specialty golds, titanium), need weld spots finer than 0.5mm for micro-detail work, require higher weld speed (4 vs. 2 welds/second) for production volumes, or want three agitation modes and three waveform options for maximum creative and metallurgical control. The 200x is the flagship — the 150x is the right starting point for most.

Not sure which is right for your specific work? Contact our team before ordering — we can help you choose based on your actual applications.

Shipping Note: Argon Tank

The argon tank ships UPS Ground to continental US states only — Alaska and Hawaii are not eligible for tank shipping. No returns are accepted on argon tanks due to compressed gas shipping regulations. The tank is sold filled and ready to use. If you are located in Alaska or Hawaii, or outside the continental US, contact our team before purchasing to discuss options.

Why Buy This Bundle From The Maker's Chest?

75-Day Return Window on the Welder and Regulator — more than double Sunstone's 30-day return policy on equipment. If the Orion 150x or the regulator doesn't work for your studio, you have 75 days to return those components. Note: the argon tank is not returnable per compressed gas shipping regulations — this applies regardless of where it is purchased.

Expert USA-Based Technical Support — jewelry welding setup involves real application knowledge: energy settings for different metals, argon pressure calibration, stylus angle and technique, weld schedule configuration. Our team can help you navigate all of it.

Dual Lines of Support — both our in-house team and Sunstone's own technical resources are available to you on a single purchase.

Authorized Sunstone Reseller — genuine products, full manufacturer warranties, backed by our additional support layer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need argon for pulse arc welding? Can't I weld without it? You can fire the welder without argon, but the weld quality will be noticeably inferior. Without argon shielding, the molten weld pool is exposed to oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen in the air — causing porosity, spatter, and discoloration in the finished weld. For precious metal work where appearance matters, argon is not optional. Every professional jewelry studio using a pulse arc welder uses argon as a matter of standard practice.

How long will the 50 scf argon tank last? It depends on usage — how often you weld, your pre-flow and post-flow settings, and how frequently you connect and disconnect the argon line. At moderate studio use, a 50 scf tank can last several months. The tank is refillable — you can order a refill from Sunstone for delivery, or take the tank to any local argon gas supplier for refilling.

Can I use a local welding supply argon tank instead? Yes — if you already have an argon source or prefer to source locally, the Sunstone premium regulator connects to standard CGA-580 argon tank fittings (confirm connection type with your local supplier). However, ensure you are using pure argon (not a mixed gas) and 99.996% purity or better for professional jewelry work.

What metals can the Orion 150x weld? The 150x welds all standard precious and non-precious metals used in jewelry: gold (all karats including 10K, 14K, 18K, 22K, 24K), sterling silver, fine silver, platinum, palladium, and most specialty alloys. It also welds stainless steel, titanium, and many non-precious alloys used in watch and eyewear repair.

Can I weld next to stones without removing them? Yes — this is one of the primary advantages of pulse arc welding over torch work. The pulse arc delivers heat only at the precise weld point, with very limited thermal spread. Stones in adjacent settings can typically be welded around safely with proper energy settings and technique. The required care depends on the stone type and its proximity to the weld — heat-sensitive stones like opals, emeralds, and pearls require more caution. Contact our team for guidance on specific stone types.

Is this bundle appropriate for permanent jewelry? Yes. The Orion 150x is one of the most widely used pulse arc welders for permanent jewelry applications. The argon setup in this bundle is exactly what permanent jewelry artists use in professional studio environments. If you're operating a mobile permanent jewelry business at events and pop-ups, you may want to consider a smaller portable argon tank (Sunstone's Argon Mini or Mini Plus) for travel, with this larger 50 scf tank serving your fixed studio location.

What is the operating pressure for argon with the Orion 150x? The Orion welding systems work best at approximately 10 PSI. Pressure can be adjusted depending on the workpiece and how far the electrode protrudes from the stylus. The farther out the electrode, the more argon pressure may be required for adequate coverage. The premium regulator's line pressure gauge allows you to dial in and monitor your working pressure precisely.

What is your return policy? The Orion 150x welder and argon regulator carry a 75-day return window. The argon tank cannot be returned due to compressed gas shipping regulations — this is standard across all argon sellers, not specific to The Maker's Chest.
