Description

Industrial RF Power, Without the Industrial Hassle.

The OneLaser Hydra 7 brings a 27.56" × 19.69" (700 × 500mm) work area, 4G acceleration, and a true 20,000–30,000-hour RF laser source — the Hydra 7 Gen 2 is OneLaser's entry point into industrial RF laser production, without the water-cooling maintenance that comes with a glass tube.

RF laser technology has traditionally lived at the high end of the market — sharper detail, longer tube life, no chiller to maintain — but usually at a price and footprint aimed at large operations. The OneLaser Hydra 7 Gen 2 brings that RF technology down to a size and price a growing shop can commit to: a 70W RF laser source, 2,000 mm/s engraving speed, and a 700 × 500mm work area, built for makers and small manufacturers who've outgrown a CO2 desktop machine but don't need a full-scale industrial cabinet yet.

2,000 mm/s and 4G Acceleration — A Different Speed Class Entirely

The Hydra 7 Gen 2's ultra-high-speed servo motor system delivers 2,000 mm/s engraving speed backed by 4G acceleration — roughly double the top speed and double the acceleration of a typical 90–100W CO2 glass-tube machine in this price range. On real, non-straight-line paths (the kind that make up most actual jobs), acceleration is what determines whether a machine reaches its rated speed at all, and 4G is enough to hold that speed through tight detail work rather than spending most of the job decelerating and reversing.

RF Laser Clarity — Sharper Detail, No Chiller Required

Unlike a glass-tube CO2 laser, the Hydra 7 Gen 2's RF laser source doesn't require a water chiller — one less piece of equipment to buy, plug in, and maintain. RF technology's tighter beam spot also produces ultra-sharp detail and more consistent depth than a comparable-wattage CO2 tube, particularly noticeable in fine engraving and photorealistic 3D-style work. The RF tube is also rated for a 20,000–30,000 hour lifespan — multiple times longer than a typical glass CO2 tube — for more predictable long-term operating costs.

GT5 DSP Control System — Offline, Industrial-Grade Stability

The Hydra 7 Gen 2 runs on OneLaser's GT5 DSP control system, an industrial touchscreen panel that supports offline operation — meaning the machine can run a job queue without staying tethered to a computer, useful once you're running back-to-back production jobs rather than one-off pieces.

Autofocus, Red-Dot Positioning, and Servo-Driven Precision

  • Autofocus: Automatic Z-axis focusing removes the guesswork of manual height adjustment on every material change.
  • Red-Dot Positioning: Marks the exact optical path on the material before the job starts, for fast and accurate alignment.
  • Servo-Driven Engraving: A production-grade DC servo motor with closed-loop PID feedback eliminates missed steps — unlike open-loop stepper motor systems, which can lose position mid-job and leave partial or distorted engraving on longer runs.

Smart Dual Air-Assist and Real-Time Lens Protection

The Smart Dual Air-Assist system automatically switches between gentle airflow for clean detail engraving and stronger airflow for safer, faster cutting — no manual adjustment required between job types. A real-time lens protection system also monitors lens temperature during operation, flagging overheating before it damages the optics or degrades cut quality.

Front-to-Back Pass-Through for Long Material

The Hydra 7 Gen 2's front-to-back pass-through design lets material longer than the bed itself feed straight through the cabinet, rather than being limited to whatever fits inside the enclosed work area.

NVH-Optimized Frame — Stable at Speed, Without Extra Vibration Sources

The frame is NVH-optimized (noise, vibration, harshness) to hold stable, precise motion at high speed — without relying on a built-in air compressor or other components that would otherwise add vibration and noise to the cabinet.

Real-Time Temperature Monitoring

A built-in temperature monitoring system tracks operating conditions during use and triggers an alarm with automatic shutoff if something moves outside safe parameters, protecting the machine during longer unattended production runs.

What's in the Box

  • OneLaser Hydra 7 Gen 2 (70W RF) laser engraver/cutter unit
  • Fixed worktable
  • Focusing lens
  • Air-assist nozzle and accessories
  • Power cord and setup documentation

Note: Unlike the glass-tube Cobra Series, the Hydra 7 Gen 2's RF laser source does not require a separate water chiller — one less accessory to budget for.

Warranty, Support & Made in USA Engineering

The OneLaser Hydra 7 Gen 2 is backed by a 3-year manufacturer's warranty on the laser engraving machine, covering defects in materials and workmanship under normal use. OneLaser's machines are engineered by a 100% U.S.-based team, with nationwide on-site service available across the U.S.

The Maker's Chest Difference

The OneLaser Hydra 7 Gen 2 is available directly from OneLaser and through other resellers. Here's what changes when you buy it through The Maker's Chest:

  • 🛡️ 75-day returns — more than double OneLaser's standard 30-day direct return window. That's real time to run the Hydra 7 Gen 2 through your actual production before you're locked in.
  • 💻 A free LightBurn Pro license included — a $199 value, activated and ready to go. OneLaser doesn't include this when you buy direct, so you're not stuck running the 30-day trial or paying out of pocket to get the machine working.
  • 🇺🇸 Expert USA-based technical support — our team can help with setup, material settings, and workflow questions, on top of whatever OneLaser's own support provides.
  • 📞 Dual lines of support — phone and email, so you have a direct path to a real person when you need it.
  • 🔧 Honest pre-sale guidance — not sure if RF or CO2 technology is the right fit, or if you need a larger Hydra model? Talk to us before you order and we'll give you a straight answer based on your actual material mix and volume.

As an industrial-scale machine, freight shipping for the Hydra 7 Gen 2 is calculated separately at checkout based on your delivery location — this is standard for machines of this size and weight class.

Frequently Asked Questions about the OneLaser Hydra 7 Gen 2

Q: What's the difference between the Hydra 7 and the Hydra 9, 13, and 16? A: All four share the same 2,000 mm/s speed, 4G acceleration, GT5 DSP control, and automation features. The differences are work area (700×500mm on the Hydra 7, scaling up to 1600×1000mm on the Hydra 16) and laser configuration — the Hydra 9, 13, and 16 offer an optional CO2+RF hybrid configuration, while the Hydra 7 is RF-only.

Q: Does the Hydra 7 need a water chiller? A: No. Unlike the glass-tube Cobra Series, the Hydra 7's RF laser source is air-cooled and doesn't require a chiller — one less piece of equipment to buy, install, and maintain.

Q: What's the actual benefit of RF laser technology over a CO2 glass tube? A: Three practical differences: RF sources don't need a water chiller, RF tubes are rated for 20,000–30,000 hours versus a typical CO2 glass tube's much shorter service life, and RF's tighter beam spot produces sharper detail and more consistent depth on fine engraving work.

Q: What materials can the Hydra 7 cut and engrave? A: Common applications include wood engraving, acrylic cutting, leather patches, glass engraving, coated metal marking, signage, and rotary engraving on tumblers and bottles (with an optional rotary attachment). Bare, uncoated metal requires the separate Q-Switch Fiber upgrade, which OneLaser has listed as a future release and is not currently available to purchase.

Q: Is 2,000 mm/s realistic, or just a spec sheet number? A: It's backed by 4G acceleration, which is what actually determines whether a machine reaches its top speed on real, detailed paths rather than spending most of a job decelerating and re-accelerating. That combination puts the Hydra 7 in a meaningfully faster class than typical CO2 glass-tube machines at a similar price point, which are commonly rated well under half that speed.

Q: What's the Hydra 7's warranty, and what does it cover? A: 3 years on the laser engraving machine, covering defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and service. It doesn't cover damage from misuse, unapproved modifications, or normal wear on consumables.

Q: Why buy the Hydra 7 from The Maker's Chest instead of directly from OneLaser? A: Our 75-day return window is more than double OneLaser's 30-day direct policy, giving you real time to run the machine through your own production before you're committed. You also get a free LightBurn Pro license (a $199 value) included at no extra cost — something OneLaser doesn't include when you buy direct — plus USA-based expert support by phone and email, and honest guidance if you're deciding between RF-only and a hybrid CO2 configuration on a larger model.

Q: Can the Hydra 7 be upgraded to add metal engraving later? A: OneLaser has announced an optional Q-Switch Fiber module (30W/50W) designed for self-installation to add metal engraving capability. As of this listing, it's marked as a future release and not yet available for purchase — check with our team for current availability before counting on it for a near-term project.

Q: Is the Hydra 7 overkill for a smaller shop just getting into laser production? A: It depends on whether you need RF-specific advantages — no chiller, longer tube life, sharper detail — more than you need CO2's typically lower entry price. If your priority is minimizing maintenance and getting sharp detail work, the Hydra 7 is a reasonable entry point even for a smaller shop; if your primary need is raw cutting power on a budget, a CO2 machine like the Cobra 8 may fit better.

General Delivery Timeframes
Delivery timeframes will vary dependent on your location and the items you've ordered.

In general, these are the delivery timeframes you can expect:

  • 1-7 Business Days - Delivery within the contiguous United States

The above is intended to be used as a guide, and may not apply in all cases. Some products may have specific 'Delivery Timeframe' information, which can be found on its own tab, or on the main 'Description' tab of the product.

Home Delivery (Bulky Items)

  • This service is generally for products over 40kg in weight, as it is a requirement for these products to be palletised for delivery.
  • This service utilises power tailgates with two-man crews or crane trucks when required and this is included in the quoted price.
  • The receiver will be contacted prior to delivery to arrange a suitable delivery date and time. Deliveries are scheduled for either an AM or PM slot on any given day.
  • Delivery is to front car port, driveway, doorstep or wherever practical depending upon site access. Drivers are not permitted to move item(s) within the residence or around the property due to OHS reasons.
  • This service assumes reasonable and safe access to the site is available. Overhanging trees, steep driveways, unsealed driveways, narrow driveways or streets or an unforeseen obstruction may deem the delivery unavailable.
  • If your delivery address is in a regional or remote location, we recommend shipping to the nearest depot as the most affordable option.

Other Terms & Conditions

If you happen to miss the delivery, you will be required to pick up your item(s) from the freight company's depot. Re-delivery can be arranged to your home, however this will incur extra costs.

We can't advise on the exact time and day the delivery will occur as this is not within our control, however you will be emailed the tracking details where you will be able to contact the freight company for more accurate timeframes.

It is your responsibility to advise us if:

  • someone will be available to sign for delivery.
  • there's somewhere safe the item can be left if no one will be home.
  • if the address is a business address, as we will require the business hours of the business and name of the building.
  • you notice any damage. If so, you should make note of it when signing for delivery or do not agree to accept the delivery. If you do accept delivery you are required to immediately take photos using your smart phone or camera of the damaged packaging or products inside the packaging. If your item(s) do arrived damaged please send photos to support@themakerschest.com, then visit our returns page and lodge your return claim online.
