If your delivery address is in a regional or remote location, we recommend shipping to the nearest depot as the most affordable option.

What metals can the xTool MetalFab weld and cut?
The MetalFab works with stainless steel (304/316/410/430), aluminum and aluminum alloys (1060/5083/6061/6063/7075), carbon steel (A36/Q235/1095/#45), titanium (Gr.5), brass, galvanized sheet (DX51D), magnesium alloy, nickel alloy, zinc alloy, and more. It handles virtually every common fabrication metal in regular shop use.
Do I need prior welding experience to use the MetalFab?
No experience is needed. The machine comes with 108+ one-click material presets and an 8-inch smart touchscreen interface. The automatic wire feeder keeps a consistent feed rate while you focus on guiding the torch. Beginners regularly achieve clean, strong welds within hours of unboxing. A free 1-on-1 commissioning session is included with every purchase from The Maker's Chest.
What power outlet does the MetalFab require?
The 1200W model requires a 200–240V, 21A or higher dedicated circuit (MAX 4200W draw). The 800W model requires a 200–240V, 15A or higher circuit (MAX 3000W draw). Standard 120V household outlets are not sufficient. For US/Canada customers, NEMA-50P or NEMA-30P plugs are provided. A dedicated 220V circuit is required — consult a licensed electrician if you don't already have one.
What's the difference between the 800W and 1200W models?
The 1200W Pro welds up to 5mm stainless/carbon steel and cuts up to 10mm carbon steel burr-free. The 800W Starter handles up to 4mm stainless steel and 8mm carbon steel burr-free. The 800W has a built-in wire feeder and is slightly more compact; the 1200W includes a separate wire feeder unit and a longer 5m cable. For most small workshops, the 800W is sufficient. Choose the 1200W if you regularly work with thicker stock or run high-volume production.
Is the CNC cutter included with the laser welder?
The laser welder and CNC cutter are available individually or as a bundle. The CNC cutter requires one of the MetalFab welders to operate — it shares the same fiber laser head. The CNC bed has a 24"×24" (610×610mm) working area with unlimited pass-through capability for longer workpieces.
How much does shielding gas cost to run, and what type do I need?
The MetalFab uses 99.99% nitrogen or argon for both welding and cutting. The proprietary SaveGas™ system reduces gas consumption by up to 50% versus traditional setups, achieving burr-free cuts in 4mm stainless at just 87 PSI. This translates to meaningfully lower ongoing operating costs compared to conventional fiber laser equipment.
Does the MetalFab require ventilation?
Yes. Metal fumes and particulates are generated during laser welding and cutting. xTool recommends ducting to the outdoors or using a certified air filtration/purifier system. This applies to all laser welding and cutting equipment regardless of manufacturer.

How long does the laser last, and is it covered under warranty?
The MetalFab uses industrial-grade Coherent fiber laser chips rated for 10,000+ hours — approximately 30% longer than competing machines at this price point. The laser delivers stable output throughout that lifespan. Full warranty coverage is backed by both The Maker's Chest and xTool.
Can the MetalFab cut non-metal materials?
The CNC cutter is optimized for metals including stainless steel, carbon steel, aluminum, brass, titanium, and galvanized sheet. It is not recommended for highly reflective metals (copper, silver, uncoated brass) in engraving mode. It is not designed for wood, acrylic, or other non-metal materials.
Is the MetalFab certified and safe to use in a shop environment?
Yes. The xTool MetalFab is CE, FCC, and FDA certified and carries a Class 4 laser safety classification. It includes 10 layered safety features, including a contact-activated emission prevention system. Appropriate laser safety eyewear rated for the 1080nm wavelength is required during operation. The machine has also been cataloged in MIT's Center for Bits & Atoms research inventory, validating its performance and reliability.

Home Delivery (Bulky Items)
This service is generally for products over 40kg in weight, as it is a requirement for these products to be palletised for delivery.
This service utilises power tailgates with two-man crews or crane trucks when required and this is included in the quoted price.
The receiver will be contacted prior to delivery to arrange a suitable delivery date and time. Deliveries are scheduled for either an AM or PM slot on any given day.
Delivery is to front car port, driveway, doorstep or wherever practical depending upon site access. Drivers are not permitted to move item(s) within the residence or around the property due to OHS reasons.
This service assumes reasonable and safe access to the site is available. Overhanging trees, steep driveways, unsealed driveways, narrow driveways or streets or an unforeseen obstruction may deem the delivery unavailable.
If your delivery address is in a regional or remote location, we recommend shipping to the nearest depot as the most affordable option.
Other Terms & Conditions
If you happen to miss the delivery, you will be required to pick up your item(s) from the freight company's depot. Re-delivery can be arranged to your home, however this will incur extra costs.
We can't advise on the exact time and day the delivery will occur as this is not within our control, however you will be emailed the tracking details where you will be able to contact the freight company for more accurate timeframes.
It is your responsibility to advise us if:
someone will be available to sign for delivery.
there's somewhere safe the item can be left if no one will be home.
if the address is a business address, as we will require the business hours of the business and name of the building.
you notice any damage. If so, you should make note of it when signing for delivery or do not agree to accept the delivery. If you do accept delivery you are required to immediately take photos using your smart phone or camera of the damaged packaging or products inside the packaging. If your item(s) do arrived damaged please send photos to support@themakerschest.com, then visit our returns page and lodge your return claim online.
