Description

The Laser Welder That Replaces Your TIG Setup, Your Angle Grinder, and Your Plasma Cutter.

The Xlaserlab X1 Pro is a 700W fiber laser welding, cleaning, and cutting system in a 42 lb desktop unit that runs on standard 100–250V power — no industrial electrical, no water chiller, no years of TIG training required.

Most users are laying clean, professional-quality welds within hours of their first use, and the machine ships complete with everything needed to start welding the same day it arrives.

Most welders spend 40% of their project time on tasks that aren't welding — grinding spatter, straightening warped panels, swapping between machines for cutting and cleaning. The Xlaserlab X1 Pro eliminates all of that. With 700W of fiber laser power and four fully integrated functions — welding, cutting, rust removal, and surface cleaning — it's the only machine you need for thin-to-medium metal work. And unlike traditional TIG or MIG setups, most users are laying clean, professional-quality welds within hours of their first use.

At The Maker's Chest, we've evaluated dozens of handheld laser welders across weld quality, build durability, ease of setup, and real-world usability. The X1 Pro earns its spot as our top recommendation because it consistently delivers where it matters: clean seams on stainless with zero post-grinding, minimal heat distortion on thin sheet metal, and a learning curve that doesn't require a welding background to master.

What Four Functions in One Machine Actually Means

Most fabricators own separate tools for each phase of metalwork: a welder for joining, an angle grinder for prep and cleanup, a plasma cutter for on-site trims, and chemicals or abrasive pads for rust and oxide removal. Each tool requires its own setup, its own consumables, and its own learning curve.

The X1 Pro consolidates four of those functions into a single unit with a single gun — switching between them in seconds from the 7" touchscreen:

Welding — butt welds, fillet welds, lap joints, T-joints, and corner welds on steel, stainless, aluminum, brass, titanium, and more.

Cutting — stainless steel and carbon steel up to 3mm in a single pass, with a narrower kerf and cleaner edge than plasma cutting.

Rust and oxide removal — the fiber laser strips surface contamination at the weld zone before joining, without chemicals, abrasives, or additional tooling.

Seam cleaning — smooth and clean the finished weld without grinding, leaving a near-polished surface directly from the machine.

Most welders spend 40% of their project time on tasks that aren't welding — grinding spatter, straightening warped panels, swapping between machines. The X1 Pro eliminates all of that.

700W Fiber Laser: The Technology That Makes It Work

The X1 Pro is built around a 700W Coherent-chip fiber laser source — industrial-grade components in a desktop form factor. The fiber laser's 14µm fiber core concentrates energy into a tight spot that produces a narrow heat-affected zone far smaller than MIG or TIG at equivalent material thickness. Less heat input means less thermal distortion, less warping on thin panels, and clean weld geometry that typically requires no post-weld grinding.

Continuous mode runs long seams at 2–3× the travel speed of MIG welding, with near-zero spatter. Ideal for structural joints, production runs, and any weld where speed matters.

Pulse mode controls heat input precisely — the right mode for thin aluminum, auto body panels, exhaust tubing, and other applications where burn-through is the primary risk on a TIG setup.

The result: the X1 Pro produces unexpectedly good weld quality on thin stainless and mild steel for its price point — better than first-time laser welder buyers expect, and comparable to mid-market Chinese machines costing two to three times more on the materials it's designed for.

Wire Feeder: The Feature That Makes Laser Welding Practical

Laser welding without a wire feeder requires near-perfect joint fit-up — tight gaps, consistent positioning, no mismatch. That's fine in a controlled environment. It's not always practical in a real shop.

The X1 Pro ships with a single wire feeder supporting 0.8mm, 1.0mm, 1.2mm, and 1.6mm wire diameters. The wire feeder feeds filler into the weld pool at a controlled rate, enabling gap bridging, material buildup, and consistent joints on imperfect fit-up — making the X1 Pro a genuine MIG replacement rather than a niche precision tool.

The optional DW1 Dual Wire Feeder (available as an upgrade pack) widens the weld bead from 3.5mm to up to 7mm — meaningful for heavier structural joints and fillet welds where single-pass fill is a priority.

Xlaserlab X1 Pro Laser Welder, Cleaner & Cutter

Underwater Welding. On a Desktop Machine.

One capability on the X1 Pro that has no comparable feature on any traditional arc welder at this price point: the welding nozzle is waterproof and can be safely submerged for underwater welding operations.

For marine fabricators, pool equipment repair, boat restoration, waterway infrastructure work, or any application where joints exist in damp or submerged environments — traditional arc welding carries real electrocution risk. The X1 Pro's insulated, sealed nozzle handles damp environments and underwater joints with full safety protection and stable weld quality.

The machine is designed with advanced insulation and process safeguards, enabling users to handle damp environments and underwater joints with confidence, delivering stable results where traditional electrical welders fail.

Material Range: 0.2mm to 5mm. No Compromises.

The X1 Pro welds across the full range of metals encountered in fabrication, automotive, and repair work:

Stainless steel — the X1 Pro's strongest application. Clean, spatter-free seams that hold up under visual inspection without grinding.

Aluminum — including thin gauge where burn-through is a constant TIG concern. Pulse mode manages heat input precisely.

Carbon steel / mild steel — both coated and bare, with pre-weld cleaning mode handling mill scale and surface oxidation.

Galvanized steel, brass, titanium, magnesium alloys, painted metals, clad materials — all supported within the machine's material preset library.

The material thickness range spans 0.2mm thin sheet (thinner than a soda can) through 5mm structural stock. The practical ceiling is 3mm for consistent single-pass results; above 3mm the process window narrows and parameters require attention. Below 2mm is where the machine is most confident.

For shops whose daily work is primarily thin-to-medium gauge fabrication — automotive, sheet metal, ornamental, enclosures, fixtures — the X1 Pro covers the full range.

Xlaserlab X1 Pro Laser Welder Cleaner & Cutter Coherent

Smart Controls. One-Touch Presets. No Trial and Error.

The 7" touchscreen HMI stores a built-in library of material-specific welding presets — select stainless, aluminum, carbon steel, or another material from the menu and the machine applies optimized power, frequency, and wire speed settings automatically. No trial-and-error parameter hunting on new materials.

The welding gun stores three custom presets directly on the gun itself — switch between jobs without returning to the main unit. For shops cycling between the same two or three materials all day, this eliminates one of the most repetitive interruptions in a production workflow.

The physical contact trigger is a meaningful safety feature beyond convenience: the laser only fires when the nozzle is in contact with the workpiece. No accidental misfires from bumping the trigger between welds.

Multi-Layer Safety. Industrial-Grade Construction.

The X1 Pro operates at Class 4 laser power — safety is not optional, and the machine is engineered accordingly:

Physical contact trigger — laser fires only when nozzle contacts metal. Accidental discharge is prevented by design.

External emergency stop — prominent, industrial-grade E-Stop cuts laser power immediately with no menu navigation required.

OD6+ laser safety goggles — included in every pack. The Ultimate Pack upgrades to an OD8+ auto-darkening laser welding helmet for extended sessions.

Smart Adaptive Thermal Management — the proprietary cooling system maintains stable laser output for 24/7 continuous operation across ambient temperatures from -4°F to 104°F, extending laser source lifespan by 45% compared to conventional cooling approaches. Rated for 10,000+ hours of operation.

The X1 Pro runs on 100V–250V wide voltage input — standard household and workshop power anywhere in the world, with no industrial electrical infrastructure required.

Which Pack Is Right for You? A Quick Guide to Single Wire and Dual Wire Feeder

Both packs include the same X1 Pro machine, welding gun, safety equipment, accessories, and core components. Laser power, welding performance, cutting capability, and cleaning functionality are identical.

The difference is the wire feeder included with the system.

Choose the Single Wire Feeder Pack if your work focuses on general fabrication, repairs, sheet metal, and most day-to-day welding applications.

Choose the Dual Wire Feeder Pack if you regularly weld larger joints, need greater filler deposition, or want the flexibility to switch between single-wire and dual-wire operation for wider, stronger weld seams.

Single Wire Feeder Pack

Standard Configuration

Starting at $3,799.99

The Single Wire Feeder Pack includes the complete X1 Pro system with a standard automatic wire feeder for everyday laser welding applications.

The single-wire configuration provides excellent control, clean welds, and reliable performance for most fabrication, repair, maintenance, and production work.

Choose Single Wire Feeder if:

  • You primarily weld thin to medium-thickness materials
  • Most of your work involves repairs, brackets, sheet metal, tubing, and general fabrication
  • You don't require extra filler deposition for wider joints
  • You want the most economical configuration without sacrificing machine performance
Best for: General fabrication shops, maintenance departments, automotive repair, agricultural equipment repair, custom metalwork, and users whose applications fall within typical single-wire welding requirements.
Dual Wire Feeder Pack

Enhanced Deposition & Wider Weld Capability

Starting at $4,499.99

The Dual Wire Feeder Pack includes the complete X1 Pro system plus the DW1 Dual Wire Feeder, a 120W high-torque feeder that supports both single-wire and dual-wire operation.

By feeding two wires simultaneously, the DW1 increases filler deposition and expands maximum weld width from approximately 3.5 mm to 7 mm, making it ideal for larger joints and higher-production environments.

The DW1 dual wire feeder adds:

  • Dual-wire mode for weld seams up to 7mm wide — critical for structural joints that need more material fill
  • Instant single/dual wire switching without stopping your work
  • 120W motor with consistent feed pressure under heavy, continuous use
  • Graphene-lined feed tubes for reduced wire friction and fewer feed jams
  • Supports wire diameters from 0.8–2.0 mm

Choose Dual Wire Feeder if:

  • You regularly weld thicker joints (closer to the 3mm ceiling) and need stronger, wider weld seams
  • You're building structural assemblies — frames, brackets, load-bearing components — where single-wire weld width isn't enough
  • You do high-volume production welding and need consistent feed reliability over long sessions
  • You want maximum flexibility to switch between precision single-wire work and high-deposition dual-wire runs in the same session
Best for: Production fab shops, structural metalwork, automotive fabrication with heavier gauge material, and any application where joint strength and weld width matter more than cosmetic precision.

A Note on Safety — Please Read Before Operating

The X1 Pro is a Class 4 fiber laser and must be operated using appropriate laser safety procedures and protective equipment.

Standard welding helmets and conventional safety glasses are not designed to protect against 1064 nm fiber laser radiation and should not be relied upon as laser safety eyewear.

All X1 Pro packages include OD8+ laser safety goggles rated for 1064 nm operation. Additional personal protective equipment will be required and must be purchased.

Operators should always follow applicable laser safety practices and ensure that all personnel in the work area are adequately protected from direct and reflected laser exposure.

Additional safety practices we strongly recommend:

  • Never operate without laser-rated eye protection (OD8+ at 1064 nm) for yourself and anyone in the work area
  • Be aware of beam reflections — polished or shiny metal surfaces can redirect the beam unpredictably; use appropriate shielding barriers
  • Ensure proper ventilation — laser cleaning and welding produce fumes requiring extraction, especially on coated or galvanized metals
  • Maintain correct standoff distance (approximately 2–3mm for welding, ~4mm for cutting) — wrong distance damages the protective lens and degrades weld quality
  • Clean optical lenses weekly with anhydrous alcohol and lint-free swabs only — never abrasive pads

Frequently Asked Questions — Xlaserlab X1 Pro

Q: What's the difference between the X1 Pro and the Xlaserlab X1 (base model)?

A: The X1 Pro (700W) is the full-featured model with welding, cutting, rust removal, and surface cleaning — plus an external wire feeder, 7" touchscreen HMI, preset library, and CNC compatibility. The X1 Handheld is a more compact, portable-first model (12kg / 26.5 lbs) optimized for on-site welding, with a simpler interface. If you need cutting, cleaning, and the wire feeder, choose the X1 Pro. If portability is your priority and you only need to weld, the X1 is a better fit.

Q: Do I need welding experience to use the X1 Pro?

A: No prior welding experience is required. Most users — including complete beginners — are laying clean, usable welds within hours of first use. The most important things to learn are maintaining correct standoff distance (2–3mm), achieving tight joint fit-up, and selecting the right mode for your material thickness. The built-in preset library handles parameter selection — you choose the material, the machine sets the parameters.

Q: What materials can the X1 Pro weld?

A: Stainless steel, carbon steel, mild steel, aluminum, brass, titanium, galvanized steel, magnesium alloys, painted metals, clad materials, and most other metals. The sweet spot is 0.2mm to 3mm thickness. Above 3mm, the 700W power starts narrowing the process window — for regular welding above 3mm, a higher-wattage machine (like the THEO MA1-45 or MA1-65) is a better fit.

Q: What makes the laser welder better than TIG or MIG for thin metal?

A: The fiber laser's concentrated beam creates a much narrower heat-affected zone than arc welding at equivalent material thickness. Less heat means less distortion and warping — particularly critical for auto body panels, thin stainless tubing, and thin aluminum sheet where TIG burn-through is a constant concern. Weld seams come out smooth and spatter-free, typically requiring no post-weld grinding or polishing.

Q: Does the underwater welding function actually work safely?

A: Yes. The welding nozzle uses advanced insulation and sealed construction that allows safe submersion. This is a legitimate differentiating feature for marine repair, pool equipment, and damp environment welding where traditional arc welding poses electrocution risk. The underwater function requires adjusting power up approximately 15% and reducing travel speed compared to dry welding.

Q: What power outlet does the X1 Pro require?

A: The X1 Pro ships with a NEMA 6-20P plug. In North America, this plug is designed for use with a compatible NEMA 6-20R receptacle or another appropriately configured 240V outlet using a suitable adapter.

This plug is not compatible with a standard 120V household outlet. Customers should verify that their workspace has a compatible 240V receptacle available before the machine arrives.

The machine's power supply is rated for 100–250V input; however, the supplied plug determines the type of electrical connection required for installation.

If you are unsure whether your electrical service is compatible, we recommend consulting a qualified electrician before purchase.

Q: What gas is required for welding?

A: Most welding applications use argon shielding gas — the same gas used in TIG welding. Gas hose and fittings are included; the argon cylinder itself is purchased separately at any welding supply. The machine also works with argon/helium blends for aluminum applications.

Q: What's the laser source lifespan, and what is the warranty?

A: The laser source is rated for 10,000+ hours with the smart adaptive thermal management system maintaining optimal operating temperature. Xlaserlab's direct warranty is 1 year on the laser source. Our 75-day return window at The Maker's Chest gives you real evaluation time before you're committed.

Q: Is the X1 Pro suitable for automotive bodywork?

A: Yes — it's one of the machine's strongest use cases. Automotive restoration enthusiasts whose work is predominantly thin sheet metal (exhaust work, body panels, brackets) in the 0.5–2mm range find 700W genuinely adequate. The low heat input minimizes panel distortion, and the cleaning mode strips rust and coatings right at the weld zone before joining — eliminating a prep step that costs significant time on restoration work.

Q: Why buy from The Maker's Chest instead of directly from Xlaserlab?

A: Our 75-day return window gives you significantly more time to evaluate the machine under real workshop conditions than Xlaserlab's direct policy. Our USA-based expert support team is reachable by phone and email with hands-on knowledge of the X1 Pro and can help with parameter optimization, wire feeder setup, and any production issues. If you're deciding between the X1 Pro and another laser welder, we'll tell you honestly which one fits your work better.

Still not sure which pack to order? We offer free pre-purchase consultations — book a quick call and we'll match you to the right option based on your specific materials, joint types, and production volume. No pressure, just straight answers.
