Why RF Metal Tube Changes the Desktop Laser Experience

Most desktop CO2 lasers use a glass tube. Glass tubes work — but they come with three persistent disadvantages: a 3,000–6,000 hour lifespan that means replacement every year or two of regular use, a larger beam spot (0.25mm) that limits fine detail, and a water cooling requirement that adds complexity to the setup.

The XRF uses a 38W RF metal tube that changes each of those constraints fundamentally.

Lifespan: The RF metal tube is rated for up to 30,000 hours — roughly 10 times longer than a standard glass CO2 tube. Running the machine 12 hours a day, that's over 6 years before the tube approaches end of life. The math: under $2 in operating cost per day.

Beam spot: The RF tube produces a 0.07mm spot — compared to a 0.25mm spot on a glass tube machine. This dramatically tighter beam delivers photorealistic 3D engraving at up to 2,000 DPI. Fine serif text, detailed portrait engraving, intricate logo work — the results are visibly sharper than what the same wattage glass tube can produce.

Cooling: The RF tube is air-cooled. No water lines, no chiller, no freeze risk in cold environments. Setup is plug-in-and-go.

The World's Fastest Desktop Laser — Not a Marketing Claim

Speed in a laser engraver isn't just about the maximum mm/s number. The number that actually determines real-world throughput is acceleration — how quickly the machine changes direction between engraving passes. A machine that reaches 1,200 mm/s but takes a long time to decelerate and reverse spends most of its time in transition, never achieving the headline speed on real jobs.

The XRF's true 3G acceleration (29,430 mm/s²) is what makes the 1,200 mm/s speed real. At 1,200 mm/s, the XRF outpaces the OMTech Polar Plus (500mm/s), the xTool P2S (600mm/s), and matches the Thunder Bolt. The DSP motion control system optimizes path planning in real time — eliminating unnecessary travel and producing the same results a gantry machine would need significantly more time to achieve.

For a shop running tumblers, leather patches, wood ornaments, or acrylic signage in batches, this directly translates to more units per hour.

FumeGuard™ — The Industry-First Intelligent Fume System

Every laser engraver produces fumes when processing organic materials. Most desktop machines in this class manage fumes with a basic exhaust fan and an attached filter. The XRF does something different.

FumeGuard™ is an intelligent fume extraction and filtration system that actively monitors fume levels in real time — the first system of its kind in a desktop laser. The FumeWatch™ system is engineered to control harmful fumes, protecting your home, children, and pets. This matters not just for air quality, but for the Class-1 safety classification the XRF carries — the highest laser safety rating available.

For makers running the XRF in a home studio, shared workspace, or studio attached to a living space, the FumeGuard™ system addresses a concern that most desktop laser manufacturers leave entirely to the operator.

OneLaser X Series Desktop CO2 Laser Aesthetics

XFocus™ Autofocus + 5MP Camera + RedDot — Setup That Gets Out of Your Way

Three systems work together on the XRF to eliminate the alignment friction that costs time on every job:

XFocus™ Autofocus: A motorized laser head adjusts focal height automatically based on integrated sensing technology. Place the material, run autofocus, and the machine sets the optimal focal distance. No ruler, no test burn, no manual adjustment cycle. Switching between a 3mm leather sheet and a 6mm wood board takes seconds.

5MP Camera: The high-precision 5MP camera enables accurate contour grabbing, remote monitoring, and micro-placement for jewelry tags, patch positioning, and quick personalization. The camera view renders directly in the LightBurn workspace — you see exactly where your design will land on the material before the laser fires.

RedDot Positioning: A safe red laser indicates the optical path position on the material before engraving begins. Combined with the camera view, alignment on irregular blanks, pre-printed pieces, and curved surfaces becomes routine rather than guesswork.

24" × 12" Workspace. And Optional Ways to Go Beyond It.

The 23.6" × 11.8" (600mm × 300mm) engraving bed comfortably handles full sheets of material, multi-piece batch layouts, and the majority of production work in custom gifts, signage, and accessories. The fully enclosed all-metal chassis maintains dimensional accuracy across the full bed area with positioning accuracy of ≤0.01mm.

Two optional accessories extend the envelope significantly:

Base Boost™ Riser: Elevates the working height to accommodate 40oz. tumblers and larger cylindrical objects with the rotary attachment, enabling full-wrap tumbler engraving that the standard bed height can't clear.

Conveyor Feeder (add-on): Transforms the XRF into a semi-automated production system for continuous-run engraving on boards, strips, and long-format material that feeds through the front and exits the back. Unlimited length production on a desktop footprint.

The pass-through design (up to 6.30" with Base Boost) handles materials that exceed the cabinet dimensions without needing a larger machine.

OneLaser X Series Desktop CO2 Laser Features

Class-1 Safe. Quiet. LightBurn Ready.

The XRF's fully enclosed all-metal cabinet with lid interlock achieves Class-1 laser safety certification — the same standard used in commercial marking systems. The laser cannot operate with the lid open. No laser safety glasses are required for observers near the closed machine.

At below 65 dB, the XRF's intelligent noise reduction system is genuinely quiet — quiet enough for a home office or shared workspace without the machine dominating the environment acoustically.

The OneTouch+™ touchscreen control panel provides real-time status, instant movement controls, and pre-programmed material presets from the machine itself — without requiring a computer connection. Wi-Fi connectivity enables remote monitoring and job management from anywhere in range.

Software: fully compatible with LightBurn and RDWorks, on both Windows and macOS. Supported file formats include AI, PDF, SC, DXF, SVG, LBRN, BMP, JPG, PNG, and more.

3-year warranty on the machine. Air cooling means no chiller to maintain, no coolant to manage, no water-related maintenance at all.

Frequently Asked Questions About OneLaser XRF Desktop Laser with 38W RF Metal Tube

Q: What's the practical difference between the XRF (38W RF) and the XT (55W glass tube)?

A: The XRF's RF metal tube produces a 0.07mm beam spot — compared to the XT's 0.25mm glass tube spot. This tighter beam delivers sharper detail, photorealistic 3D engraving, and up to 2,000 DPI resolution that the glass tube physically cannot match. The XRF also reaches 1,200 mm/s (vs the XT's 800 mm/s), is air-cooled with no water system required, and has a 30,000-hour tube life versus 3,000–6,000 for glass. The trade-off: the 55W glass tube on the XT delivers more raw cutting power for thicker materials at a lower price. If engraving quality and detail are your primary work, the XRF is the right choice. If you primarily need thick-material cutting at the lowest entry cost, the XT deserves a look. Our team can help you decide.

Q: Does it need a water chiller?

A: No. The 38W RF metal tube is completely air-cooled — no water lines, no chiller, no coolant maintenance, no freeze risk. This is one of the most meaningful practical advantages of the RF tube over glass-tube alternatives.

Q: How does the 5MP camera actually work in practice?

A: The camera renders a live overhead image of the bed directly in the LightBurn workspace. You position and scale your design over that image to set exact placement on the material — including irregular shapes, pre-printed blanks, and off-center pieces. Combined with XFocus™ autofocus, the camera ensures placement doesn't just look right on screen — it engraves exactly right on the workpiece.

Q: What materials can it engrave and cut?

A: Engraving: Wood, leather, acrylic, glass, stone, ceramic, MDF, cork, rubber, coated and anodized metals, plastics, fabric, and more. Cutting: Wood, plywood, acrylic, leather, MDF, paper, rubber, and similar organic and polymer materials. It cannot engrave or cut bare metal — bare metal requires a fiber laser. For coated/painted/anodized metals, the XRF engraves cleanly.

      Q: Can it engrave tumblers?

A: Yes, with the rotary attachment (available as an add-on). For full-wrap tumbler engraving on 40oz. tumblers, the Base Boost™ Riser is required to create the vertical clearance needed for the larger diameter. Both the rotary attachment and Base Boost are available at checkout.

      Q: How loud is it?

A: Below 65 dB during operation — roughly equivalent to normal conversation volume. The intelligent noise reduction system manages fan speed actively based on thermal load, keeping the machine quiet during lower-intensity work and managing sound even under sustained production operation.

Q: What software does it use?

A: LightBurn and RDWorks are both fully compatible, on Windows and macOS. Supported file formats include AI, PDF, DXF, SVG, LBRN, BMP, JPG, PNG, and more. The machine also has the OneTouch+™ touchscreen panel for direct on-machine operation and pre-programmed material presets without needing a computer connection.

Q: How does FumeGuard™ work, and do I still need a fume extractor?

A: FumeGuard™ is an intelligent fume monitoring and filtration system built into the machine — the first of its kind on a desktop laser. It actively monitors fume levels in real time and manages the internal filtration and extraction system accordingly. For regular production use, the internal FumeGuard™ system provides meaningful protection for enclosed indoor workspaces. For high-volume production or particularly enclosed spaces, supplementing with an external fume extractor is recommended. Our support team can advise on the right setup for your specific workspace.

Q: What's the XRF's warranty, and what does it cover?

A: 3-year warranty on the laser engraving machine (excluding consumables and shipping). The RF tube's 30,000-hour rated lifespan means you're very unlikely to need a tube replacement within the warranty period under normal use. Our 75-day return window applies in addition to the manufacturer warranty period.

Q: Why buy from The Maker's Chest instead of directly from OneLaser?

A: Our 75-day return window is more than double OneLaser's 30-day direct policy — giving you real production evaluation time before you're committed. Our USA-based expert support team is reachable by phone and email and can help from initial LightBurn setup through production optimization. If you're comparing the XRF against other desktop machines or deciding whether to step up to a Cobra or Hydra cabinet, we'll give you a straight recommendation based on your actual use case.

          • 🔧 Honest pre-sale guidance — not sure whether the XRF or the XT glass-tube model is right for your work? Or whether this desktop is the right step or if you'd be better served by a Cobra or Hydra cabinet machine? Talk to us before you order. We'll tell you straight

          Home Delivery (Bulky Items)

          • This service is generally for products over 40kg in weight, as it is a requirement for these products to be palletised for delivery.
          • This service utilises power tailgates with two-man crews or crane trucks when required and this is included in the quoted price.
          • The receiver will be contacted prior to delivery to arrange a suitable delivery date and time. Deliveries are scheduled for either an AM or PM slot on any given day.
          • Delivery is to front car port, driveway, doorstep or wherever practical depending upon site access. Drivers are not permitted to move item(s) within the residence or around the property due to OHS reasons.
          • This service assumes reasonable and safe access to the site is available. Overhanging trees, steep driveways, unsealed driveways, narrow driveways or streets or an unforeseen obstruction may deem the delivery unavailable.
          • If your delivery address is in a regional or remote location, we recommend shipping to the nearest depot as the most affordable option.

If you happen to miss the delivery, you will be required to pick up your item(s) from the freight company's depot. Re-delivery can be arranged to your home, however this will incur extra costs.
