OMTech Pronto 40 90W CO2 Laser Cutter and Engraver Specifications

Where the Pronto 40 Fits — The Middle Configuration in the Pronto Series

The Pronto series spans five configurations across the same production platform. The Pronto 40 90W occupies a specific niche within that range:

Pronto 35 (27.6" × 19.7"): The entry-level Pronto bed. Strong throughput at 1000 mm/s, but the smaller field constrains piece size and batch capacity for shops that regularly work with wider or longer pieces.

Pronto 40 (35.4" × 23.6"): A meaningful step up in working area — approximately 50% more than the Pronto 35 — at 90W output. The right configuration when the Pronto 35 bed size is the production bottleneck and the 24" × 40" Pronto 45 footprint or price is more than currently required.

Pronto 45 and Pronto 60: Larger beds and higher power for shops operating at higher volumes with consistently larger piece formats.

The Pronto 40 is right for:

  • Sign shops where the majority of sign blanks exceed the Pronto 35's 27.6" length but don't require the Pronto 45's full 39.4" width
  • Awards and personalization businesses whose batch layouts consistently fill the Pronto 35 field and need more nesting room per cycle
  • Shops looking for 90W cutting headroom in a bed size that steps up from entry-level without committing to a full 24" × 40" machine footprint

Contact our team if you're comparing the Pronto 40 with either the Pronto 35 or Pronto 45 — we'll help you determine which bed size actually fits your most common project dimensions before you order.

1000 mm/s + 90W — Production Speed and Cutting Power Together

The Pronto 40's two production-defining specifications work in combination:

1000 mm/s engraving speed across 35.4". At 1000 mm/s, the Pronto 40 engraves a 35.4" pass significantly faster than a 600 mm/s machine covers the same or smaller distance. For a personalization business processing batch orders throughout the day, or a sign shop running repeated logo and text engravings, this speed advantage compounds into meaningful additional daily output.

90W for real cutting headroom. At 90W, the machine handles thicker cutting stock than 60W configurations — dense MDF, thick plywood, and heavy acrylic — with more comfortable single-pass throughput. For shops that both engrave at high speed and cut at commercial thicknesses, 90W provides the power that keeps pace with the 1000 mm/s motion system across the full material range.

Both specifications are delivered by the upgraded transmission system that is the mechanical foundation of the Pronto platform:

X-axis V-wheel design: Low-friction lateral movement that sustains 1000 mm/s cleanly across the full 35.4" width.

Y-axis high-precision belt: Accurate positioning and consistent tension during rapid direction changes — maintaining mark quality in complex artwork and detailed fill patterns at production speed.

Z-axis ball screw: Stable, precise workbed elevation that supports autofocus accuracy and consistent focal height across varying material thicknesses.

OMTech Pronto 40 90W CO2 Laser Cutter and Engraver Boost Speed

Autofocus + Red Dot — Correct Focus Without Manual Measurement

Autofocus detects material height and adjusts the laser head's focal distance automatically — eliminating the manual measuring, adjusting, and test-burn sequence that precedes every material height change on manual-focus machines.

For a production shop cycling between wood, acrylic, and leather at different thicknesses throughout the day, autofocus removes a 2–3 minute per-material-change process and converts it into a button press. Across a 6-hour production day with multiple material changes, the accumulated time savings are significant.

Red dot indicator makes the optical path visible before the laser fires — providing precise origin positioning and layout confirmation on each setup. For batch work where every piece needs to land in the same position, the red dot is what establishes that repeatability without consuming test material.

8.7" Workpiece Height + 39.3" Pass-Through — Physical Versatility Beyond Flat Stock

8.7" (220mm) maximum workpiece height: Standard CO2 laser cabinets typically allow 1–3 inches of material height. The Pronto 40's 8.7" clearance accommodates assembled trophies and awards (engrave the finished product rather than components), thick dimensional lumber, foam blocks, and larger cylindrical objects on a compatible rotary attachment.

For an awards business, this height clearance is the specification that enables engraving finished assemblies without disassembly — a direct labor cost reduction at any volume.

39.3" × 1.5" front and back pass-through: Flat stock longer than 35.4" feeds through for sequential processing — boards, strips, and panels process continuously without removing the material from the machine. The 39.3" wide opening accommodates full-width boards without width trimming.

318 CFM Diagonal Flow Duct Fan + 3.2X Air Boost — Smoke Removal at Production Volume

318 CFM diagonal flow duct fan: High-capacity extraction scaled for the Pronto 40's 35.4" × 23.6" cabinet at 90W operation — clearing smoke from the cutting zone faster than standard fans to maintain clean air throughout sustained production sessions.

3.2X air pump boost: Increased air assist flow for better debris clearing at the cut point during 90W operation — protecting the focus lens and maintaining cut edge quality across extended sessions on wood, acrylic, and leather.

The solid frame with aluminum plate brackets and upgraded honeycomb bed provide structural stability and consistent workpiece support across the 35.4" width — the mechanical foundation that allows 1000 mm/s to produce accurate marks rather than frame-resonance errors.

Safety for Daily Production Use

Class-1 safety positioning: Professional production environment rating.

Real-time temperature monitoring: Stops, resets, and alerts the operator if thermal limits are exceeded — protecting the 90W tube during sustained production.

Built-in pressure sensors: Trigger an alarm if air assist pressure drops below threshold — catching a potential quality issue before it affects a production batch.

Flame-retardant PC board: Reduces fire risk during sustained 90W operation.

Water chiller required: The 90W CO2 tube requires active water cooling for production use — not included in the standard package. A CW-5000 or CW-5200 series chiller is appropriate. Contact our team for compatible chiller guidance before ordering.

Frequently Asked Questions About OMTech Pronto 40 90W CO2 Laser Cutter and Engraver

Q: What's the specific difference between the Pronto 35 90W and the Pronto 40 90W?
A: Same 90W tube, same 1000 mm/s speed, same autofocus, same upgraded transmission, same 8.7" height, same fan and air assist, same software. The difference is working area: Pronto 35 is 27.6" × 19.7"; Pronto 40 is 35.4" × 23.6" — approximately 50% more working area. Choose the Pronto 40 when your typical projects regularly approach or exceed the Pronto 35's field, or when you need more pieces per batch layout without stepping to the larger Pronto 45 footprint.

Q: How does the Pronto 40 compare to the Pronto 45?
A: The Pronto 45 100W provides a larger 39.4" × 23.6" field and 100W tube versus the Pronto 40's 35.4" × 23.6" and 90W. The depth (23.6") is identical between them; the Pronto 45 adds 4" of additional length and 10W of power. For shops where that additional length matters for their most common project sizes, the Pronto 45 is the step up. If 35.4" × 23.6" covers your typical piece range, the Pronto 40 at 90W is the efficient choice.

Q: Does it need a water chiller?
A: Yes — a water chiller is required for optimal cooling and tube longevity at 90W sustained operation. Not included in the standard package. CW-5000 or CW-5200 series chillers are appropriate. Contact our team for compatible options before ordering.

Q: What is the actual engraving area?
A: 35.4" × 23.6" (900 × 600mm) — the specification table's engraving area. The product title references a "24" × 35" class" working area, reflecting the bed class.

Q: Is LightBurn compatible?
A: Yes — LightBurn is compatible and is the preferred production software for most users. Included free with this machine, courtesy of The Maker's Chest. Runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Q: What is the tube service life?
A: 12,000 hours estimated service life — at 8 hours daily, 250 working days per year, approximately 6 years of rated tube life.

Q: Why buy from The Maker's Chest instead of directly from OMTech?
A: Our 75-day return window gives you significantly more evaluation time than OMTech's direct return policy — enough to run the Pronto 40 through your actual production workloads and confirm it performs before you're locked in. Our USA-based expert support team is reachable by phone and email for LightBurn and RDWorks setup, water chiller configuration, autofocus calibration, and production troubleshooting throughout your ownership. If you're choosing between the Pronto 35, 40, and 45, we'll give you a straight recommendation.

Home Delivery (Bulky Items)

  • This service is generally for products over 40kg in weight, as it is a requirement for these products to be palletised for delivery.
  • This service utilises power tailgates with two-man crews or crane trucks when required and this is included in the quoted price.
  • The receiver will be contacted prior to delivery to arrange a suitable delivery date and time. Deliveries are scheduled for either an AM or PM slot on any given day.
  • Delivery is to front car port, driveway, doorstep or wherever practical depending upon site access. Drivers are not permitted to move item(s) within the residence or around the property due to OHS reasons.
  • This service assumes reasonable and safe access to the site is available. Overhanging trees, steep driveways, unsealed driveways, narrow driveways or streets or an unforeseen obstruction may deem the delivery unavailable.
  • If your delivery address is in a regional or remote location, we recommend shipping to the nearest depot as the most affordable option.

Other Terms & Conditions

We can't advise on the exact time and day the delivery will occur as this is not within our control, however you will be emailed the tracking details where you will be able to contact the freight company for more accurate timeframes.
